How stable is the current Taliban regime in Afghanistan?
In August 2021, the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan. Two years on, the country faces enormous challenges. Afghanistan is in the midst of a humanitarian crisis and terrorist groups such as Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) continue to use the country as sanctuary. The Taliban has faced international condemnation for their human rights violations, in particular their recent ban on female NGO workers and limits on education for women. But the largest threat to stability in Afghanistan is perhaps the Taliban regime’s own, internal power struggles.
In this webinar, Hassan Abbas discusses the Taliban’s internal ruptures, how they affect the Taliban’s ability to rule effectively, and what they might mean for the future of Afghanistan.
The webinar is led by Anne Likuski and hosted by the Consortium for Research on Terrorism and International Crime: www.nupi.no/en...
