When my son was 12, the Ernie Blake ski school did the usual ski-off to sort kids into ski class. They found three kids who didn't need the usual schooling, and one instructor decided to make them "a class" and take 'em up to the ridge. So we paid for a group class and got him essentially a private lesson on the ridge. He loved it. The instructor loved it. In the afternoon the "class" dwindled to one, so it became truly a private lesson at group rates!

I taught skiing there for many years. Still one of my all time favorite ski areas.

Thank you for the beautiful video. I love skiing at TSV and prefer it to Colorado where I live. Taos has such blue, blue skies and awesome runs. So many great memories from TSV. I miss the Mayer brothers the St Bernard. Many changes now at TSV since I began skiing there in 1995.

I once made a my first turn on Juarez after a big storm and the whole thing broke and I rode an avalanche on my back all the way to the bottom just trying like hell not to get pulled under. Those ridgeline runs are steep and dangerous, dont go alone like I did.

Got it. Two people or one person I don’t remember died not long ago in an avalanche when they were coming down from the ridge in Taos. Definitely dangerous

@@goldenslumbers1148 Yessir I was there for that as well, that was last year on Kachina after a 44" storm, dad skiing with his son, son got buried and the dad made it out ok, tragic. I'm considering a deployable air bag system for my next backcountry venture

Looks like a rocky wet heavy snow mess in steep tree covered terrain...hard pass.

Everyone's experiencing less snow except far up north in WY and MT. Just do what we can.

The terrain at TSV is not limiting for any level of skier. But yes - there are an abundance of black and double black runs and some runs off of West Basin that make me pucker.

I'm from East Tx. I ski here once a year for a week at a time. So I'm by no means 1%. And I ski all the ridgeline stuff. It's a bit scary at times but it's a blast.

@@Fuuq2 I may be a Texan but I basically spend any free time or money I have flying around the country and skiing/mountain biking. I have skiied every resort in Lake Tahoe from squaw to Kirkwood, every resort in Colorado from wolf creek to vail, ive skiied every resort in the cotton wood canyons of Utah, spent a good ammount of time in Jackson hole WY as well as Alta, WY and the most dangerous and difficult runs I've skiied were the hike-to terrain in Taos, including being in an avalanche on the Juarez run. It's definitely doable but you need to be athletic and have lots of experience.
