I have moderate asthma & now my pulmonologist says I have stage 1 COPD (never smoked). I've been a lap swimmer for 40 years and, at 75, still swim usually 3x/week for 30 mins, at a slower pace than in younger days, but non-stop. Would an incentive spirometer benefit me, or is swimming enough? I used to walk or bike on non-swim days but due to an ankle injury, can't do that for now. No dr has suggested an incentive spirometer, pulmonary rehab or anything. She seems to imply I'm not that bad, but I'm not "that good" anymore either. Thanks for your helpful videos! I learn more from you than any of the docs who just don't have time any more.

It’s sounds as if you have a great foundation but just need a tuneup to get back on track. You would definitely benefit from our 1:1 Zoom sessions or our Self paced Online Pulmonary Rehab program. I would be happy to help you with education and Pulmonary Rehab and Posture Therapy exercises. Here’s the link: PulmonaryRehab.com

I don’t understand if I am supposed to record the number at the top of the plunger or at the bottom.

Hello 😊 If yours is similar to the incentive Spirometer in the video, it’s measured at the top of the valve.

An excellent tool to help us increase our breathing, especially the volume of our breathing. I haven’t got one yet, but watching you using it makes me think it would be very beneficial. You’re such a kind gentleman which makes such a great difference. Very many thanks indeed.
