I was inspired to write a narrative poem with elements of lyric poetry after reading Act 3:14-15, which matched the first five digits of pi, following a calculus class in the fall of 1987. The result was “The Righteous One (3:14-15).” Since I’m not a strong singer or composer, I used AI to create the musical arrangement and vocals. Admittedly, my vocal skills aren’t great-perhaps reminiscent of Roseanne Barr’s rendition of the national anthem-but I hope the message and essence of the poem shine through regardless!
HERE ARE THE LYRICS:
[Verse 1]
Out in the crowd, they were callin’ his name,
But they turned their backs on Him just the same.
The Holy One stood, innocent and pure,
But they traded His grace for a killer’s lure.
[Chorus]
Oh, they let a sinner run free,
While the One who could save was hung on a tree.
They killed the One who brings life to me,
But God’s love is stronger than death could ever be.
Like pi goes on, unbroken and true,
His mercy keeps rollin' through and through.
[Verse 2]
They thought it was over, they thought He was gone,
But the stone rolled away, and the light shone on.
We’re witnesses now, to what they couldn’t see,
The life that He gives, forever and free.
[Chorus]
Oh, they let a sinner run free,
While the One who could save was hung on a tree.
They killed the One who brings life to me,
But God’s love is stronger than death could ever be.
Like pi goes on, unbroken and true,
His mercy keeps rollin' through and through.
[Bridge]
From three-fourteen to fifteen, it’s clear,
We rejected the Savior, but He’s still near.
Like that number that never ends,
His love keeps spinning, time never bends.
[Chorus]
Oh, they let a sinner run free,
While the One who could save was hung on a tree.
They killed the One who brings life to me,
But God’s love is stronger than death could ever be.
Like pi goes on, unbroken and true,
His mercy keeps rollin' through and through.
[Outro]
Like pi, His love, it just won’t quit,
Infinite grace, that’s the heart of it.
Three, fourteen, and fifteen say,
He’s the One who saves us every day.
