Personally, I think "Halbrandriel" rolls off the tongue much better. Seriously though, the Deceiver did not once lie in this show, and yet we're supposed to believe in the last scene that he was actually pulling the strings the entire time. The only takeaway I got here was that Sauron was genuinely trying to be better and Galadriel told him he's incurably evil for no good reason
@Syaniiti

And your takeaway would be correct. Halbrand/Simpron actually believed Galadriel. That was Simprons big mistake. Having learned that Galadriel is a manipulative bitch he left angry. Galadriel is the 2nd most evil force in the show just after Harfoots.

The thing that bugged me the most about the final episode was that the show basically erased the character of Annatar and the machinations and manipulations of his time with the elves. For a show that tries to be a PG version of Game of Thrones, they missed the one character and events surrounding him that would be most GoT-like so far. I know Sauron still has to get captured and go to Numenor, but the seeds of his cunning were shown with how he played most of the elves in Eregion.
@ollipoppin

I read some comments by the writers saying something about Annatar. Now, I'm not really sure what that means, but them saying something along the lines of "be prepared for what's to come next season" WHILE talking about him...idk: to me feels like we're going to get another "Halbrand" which will trick the Elves into forging the other rings, and then WOAH, another Sauron reveal. It's just speculation, ofc, but after this shitshow I can see them doing this and worse.
@rk9340

Annatar is from the Silmarillion. They don't have the rights to that. Also there's at least 3 different origin stories for the rings in the canon (one told by Gandalf to Frodo, where there's lots of "lesser rings" forged before the great 19 ones and those "lesser rings" just disappear in the Silmarillion, where Tolkien calls the 19 greater ones "lesser" in regards to the one ruling ring).
@ollipoppin

@@rk9340 oh, I know they don't have the rights to the character, but they might have found a way around it, or even saw that they just couldn't do without, and bought the rights for him, specifically for season 2, avoiding telling anybody for plot reasons, idk. Again: I'm speculating and I'm lowkey ready for anything.

@@ollipoppin Annatar is just an alias. They already dropped the "call it a gift" in the last episode. Even if Guyladriel sees into the minds of people it wouldn't show Halbrand as being evil since Halbrand wasn't evil, he wanted peace until Guyladriel lied to him and manipulated him. Every evil that Sauron does from the point he left Seahorse-island is on Guyladriel. Also the 3 elven rings were the last to be made and they were made without Sauron/Annatar having anything to do with them and thus they were spared of the corruption. Now the rings were made first meaning the elves have no reason to craft the other rings and if there are no other rings there's no reason to craft the one ring to rule them all. Also also Guyladriel knew that the rings were Saurons idea and decided that instead of not making what Sauron wants they should make more of what Sauron wants. And yes, the dresses seem similar but that's no surprise, everything on the show looks and feels cheap, apart from parts of the cgi (parts of the cgi are garbage). RoP is the worst show I've ever seen a full episode of and is the worst show per dollar spent ever made.

All the dresses on the women look similar, especially the gathering over the bust which is horribly unflattering to some - however, rather than make the bust look bigger, I think they were designed that way to make it look like there was texture, rather than have layered clothes like the movies had. Even though the Hobbit movies Galadriel costumes weren't as amazing as the LotR movies, they were still better than this. When she was in Numenor we had the improvised corset/sash, which seemed to be slipping so it cut her in half mid-boob, and in Eregion we have the same design as Miriel, but a different colour and throw a lot of bling over it so we won't notice (BUT WE DID).

Forging the Elven rings first completely messes up the lore. Celebrimbor first forged the rings for Men and the Dwarves with the aid of Sauron. Only later did Celebrimbor forge the three Elven rings by himself. This made it possible for the Elves to use the rings to protect their realms and not fall under the power of Sauron like other creations of Eru Ilúvatar (that is, the kings of Men-the Vala Aulë created the Dwarves, so the rings only magnified their tendencies).

I remember the scene when all the villagers were saying something along the lines of all hail the King of the Southlands e.t.c, as people of the lands wouldn't they question this guy's legitimacy? He has NO legitimacy whatsoever - they didn't want to swear fealty to Adar but they're totally happy with this random sailor dude? If you turn off the sound you might mistaken this as one of the roman historical documentaries. Thought you would find this interesting interview with the show runners regarding Sauron worth a read. From the Hollywood Reporter “What’s in the [The Lord of the Rings books] is an all encompassing evil that everyone is afraid of, and is so powerful, it doesn’t even have to be manifested physically,” McKay says. “He’s an image of an eye in [Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings] films, he’s the eye on the tower. We felt Sauron should be a character in his own right. We wanted to study the currents running within him in a way that hopefully would reward audiences as they follow him moving forward as he becomes the Dark Lord. You now know him as a person outside the name ‘Sauron.’ In some ways, we wanted to do an origin story for Sauron. We didn’t want to make a show that was about the hunt for Sauron, but we love the idea of Sauron as a deceiver who could, hopefully, deceive some of the audience.” Adds Payne: “There’s something that Milton does in Paradise Lost that we talked about a lot. Where he makes Satan a really compelling character. In some ways, he’s the first antihero where he’s compelling and you can’t take your eyes off of him. Milton did that on purpose because he wants you to fall along with Adam and Eve. He wants Satan to be so persuasive that he also seduces [the reader] and you’re unconsciously won over, so that you perceive your own fallenness and your need for redemption.” Continues Payne: “In Tolkien, Sauron is a deceiver and we know that in Second Age he appears in ‘fair form.’ So what if he sneaks up on you and is able to get you to sympathize with him and get you to be on board with him so that once you actually realize who he is, that he’s already got his hooks in you? So it’s not just as easy as, ‘This person is evil, I’m going to back away,’ because you’ve already formed some level of attachment to him. What if we could get the audience to go through a similar journey?” Many online had guessed Halbrand was Sauron along the way, which showrunners note is just fine with them - the goal wasn’t to fool everybody with a twist that feels totally out of the blue. “If you had a sneaking suspicion over the course of an entire season, and then that suspicion is ultimately confirmed, that’s an emotional engagement,” Payne says. “Tragedy is one of the highest art forms. There’s a reason people are still putting on Romeo and Juliet hundreds of years after it was written even though you know what happens at the end. A surprise only rewards you on one viewing.” “I hope after the last episode airs, viewers watch the whole season again, which is now a different experience,” McKay says. “We hope that, as we get into season two, it makes people like season one even better because you’re seeing it through a new prism.” Speaking of the next season of the Prime Video series - which has begun filming, yet isn’t expected until sometime in 2024 - the producers hint Sauron will play a major role as he moves forward as an antihero in the model of some iconic TV characters. “Season one opens with: Who is Galadriel? Where did she come from? What did she suffer? Why is she driven?” says Payne. “We’re doing the same thing with Sauron in season two. We’ll fill in all the missing pieces.” “Sauron can now just be Sauron,” McKay adds. “Like Tony Soprano or Walter White. He’s evil, but complexly evil. We felt like if we did that in season one, he’d overshadow everything else. So the first season is like Batman Begins, and the The Dark Knight is the next movie, with Sauron maneuvering out in the open. We’re really excited. Season two has a canonical story. There may well be viewers who are like, ‘This is the story we were hoping to get in season one!’ In season two, we’re giving it to them.” 😳🤭

But what do I know, I’m just another silly man 😂 To say that this show is a colossal disappointment is an understatement. At best, It is an ill-conceived, badly written, poorly executed fan fiction. At worst, it is an insult to Professor Tolkien and his life’s work, and a slap in the face to millions of Tolkien fans. What bothered me a lot was low quality of prop crafts for the rings. In a close up you can see a seam of the mold they used to create the prop and nobody bothered to polish it up. And the gemstones look cheap, like plastic or epoxy and aren't even cut symmetrically. The gem fitting is also poorly done, the metal holds are curved inward around the gemstone in an asymmetric fashion which correct me if I'm wring, is not desirable for jewelry And the smelting oh boy. The dagger has gold, silver and steel and they dint disassemble it. Gold and silver tend to not mix well with other metals and I'm sure I saw some gemstones in the handle too. If you try to melt it down and chuck a piece of ire into it, it is a recipe for disaster. First melted steel will oxidize quickly and the slack and oxides of iron will create a layer on top of this melting cup meaning your mithril is coated with oxides of iron which is a problem for structural integrity of the piece and further mixing. And if somehow they melted and mixed gemstones into it, it would increase the amount of slack you don't want in your alloy. They are supposed to be naster smiths yet they've got no idea how crucible works and why you don't want your smelting material to have contact with oxygen
@Syaniiti
2 жыл бұрын
The dagger was Gold, Silver and Iron. If the greatest elven smith that ever lived doesn't know about alloys the elves don't have steel. Also the mix somehow created 3 rings where 1 is made of silver and 2 are made of gold when they should all be the same garbage.

Another great video, thanks! Sauron’s Music video 😂 Regarding the dresses of the two ladies, they have the similarities that you pointed out along with the collar embellishments. The elf dress has more sash-style accessorizing, but the first dress (dark blue) we saw the queen in had a lot of that as well. Humans and elves should not have the same style of clothing as they are separate cultures which have no contact with each other. This seems to be the first clothing that G has worn which actually flatters her figure so I thought that was an improvement. I have to admit I am biased in favour of the LOTR clothes so I cannot claim that my opinion is objective. I am not watching House of the Dragon, but the brief glimpse you showed of those dresses looked more appropriate to the setting. Those rings look extremely tacky. They look like costume jewellery worn on stage that has to be big enough that the audience can see it. I just got the red one in a Kinder Surprise egg! Wooooo gonna wield my power!

2:34 "nothing is at stake"... so true, and that goes for more than mithril: the writing and 8+ hours of shows have not shown the clear and present danger, the dire urgency of their mission, and what kind of a threat Sauron is. We hear he's bad, and is responsible for the death of Guyladriel's brother, thus revenge quest. But nothing which gives the awe and horror of Morgoth/Sauron/End of the Damned World level of antagonist. Therefore the 5 plotlines and racing around consist of random memberberries, names, callbacks, quotes from the films, as if the showrunners are relying on the audience to have seen the films already - that's where the epic scale and grandeur is - not in the tv series. The de-powering of Galadriel's magic and insight is an artistic crime.

Small dumb thing I noticed about the Eregion sets-- in the background there are irises blooming. Didn't they have to get the furnaces done by spring? But irises bloom in the spring? What season has it been this entire time? Was it always spring? How much time has passed?!

The three witches (?) made absolutely no sense. They literally had no backstory or setup. It was such a waste of Vfx. Kinda annoyed with that throway subplot. The revelation of Saraun was so elementary and basic. I'm actually a little embarrassed for them lol. Halbrand should've been around Numenoreans and the elves (Celebrimbro) most of the season in order to do the whole manipulation and espionage thing. EDIT: Thank you for mentioning Galadriel's telepathy/mysticism. Still can't believe Amazon took away her magic. Wild.

I think The Stranger is a Blue Wizard since Gandalf said in The Two Towers: "Many are my names in many countries: Mithrandir among the Elves, Tharkûn to the Dwarves; Olórin I was in my youth in the West that is forgotten, in the South Incánus, in the North Gandalf; to the East I go not." He states very specifically that he did not travel to the East, which Rhun would be considered by him since his focus was NW Middle Earth. At least one of the Blue Wizards went East and was never heard from again (as far as the LOTR story goes). Having The Stranger be this Blue Wizard would free Amazon up from ANY lore entanglements since they'd have a clean slate to write from about what he did. The Blue Wizard would also not be tied down by the lore events of NW Middle Earth and Numenor directly. Amazon could allow the event to effect the East when it fits their story, but wouldn't be beholden to it. A stretch would be The Stranger could be Radagast The Brown, since the Stranger has a seeming affinity to nature and growing things.

I'm not a lore expert, but, to answer your question about whether or not Sauron helped forged the elven rings AT 8:07 , he does and aids Celebrimbor with it, but only in the Shadow of Mordor/War canon I believe. Considering the inaccuracies we've seen, it wouldn't surprise me to think the writers based the lore on that game, which is also not very accurate to Tolkien's lore(but a lot more enjoyable then RoP)

In an effort to not repeat obvious complaints, that everyone else has already stated, one small but notable detail that keeps really bugging me (though is at this point also something I'd kinda completely expect from this show), is that even the people who claim to worship him are referring to the second Dark Lord as Sauron, when that is the name given to him by his enemies, which is Quenya for "the Abhorred" and it's stated he doesn't allow his servants to use that name of him. Suppose it's kinda justified with the old village weirdo, but the evil priestesses definitely give of the vibe of someone who'd ought to know better (even though I have no idea if they are supposed to be based on anything from the actual lore).

I am pretty sure that any song by Sauron & Mount Doomsdays would be a far better hit than the lame end credits wailing of the Ring-verse. Dudes. Have a hear of the Blind Guardian, they did it better. The lameness of the fact that Guyladriel is the only one who DOESN'T recognize Sauron when she is the ONLY ONE WHO DID. Wow. Just wow. Congrats, amazong, you subverted all our expectations. The rings look totally lame. Had to pause the episode and call my stepdad, who's a blacksmith, to confirm my suspicion that melting the whole dagger in one pot is complete bulls*t. Also, where the HELL are the 16?! Subverting expectations again? Makes sense, right? How is Sauron going to *NOT* know about the 3 but control the 16 about which he doesn't know? Ohhh, the 'plot' thiccckens. Anyway thanks for the review. I had fun watching your look into the costuming of this lackluster show. Honestly I found it quite hilarious that the Hobo Harfoot's costumes were actually the only ones at least *trying* to use natural material fibres instead of all the 3D print shirts and polystyrene dresses. Another thing that irks me to no end is the fact that they don't even change. Reminds me of the LOTR parody that was making rounds here ages ago. "I have these boxers by Adidas. I really recommend them, they're still fine and I haven't changed them in 2 thousand years!" .. "Man, I didn't know you were such a pig."

Guyladriel, as one of my other favorites says, 'ohhhh". Her lack of logic and common sense lead me to believe she was dropped on her head one too many times or one of the rocks looking down caused some damage. The clubfoots are just plain irritating and Toots not Gandalf taking Borey on a trip? Please!! The Sauron guy grows a pair, but what a shock, he's evil LMAO. Bravo m'lady and it is tragic, Mor"mazon" has equavalently sacked the literary Osgiliath equivalent of Professor Tolkien's lore and story with season one, it is a descration of "history of the elvish speaking tongues..Shall we now sit around the fire and muse sadly on Rings of Power? Our position, "Exsurge Tolkien" (published 25 March 22, and available for review on our channel), remains the most comprehensive analysis (and foreshadowed) of the Anti-Tolkien agenda of the ROP enterprise as declared by the showrunner's own words. We now see what the corporate machine theyocracy has wrought on Professor Tolkien's legacy: heresy, catastrophe, and disaster. Even the most ardent ROP supporters have weighed the show on the scales and found it wanting, "Auta i lóme" and "Aurë entuluva."

They smelted gold, silver, iron and whatever else garbage was on that blade, volcanic ash from Mount Doom at least to make the "purest of ores". The finale is a disaster, but I guess its the story that Tolkien never wrote. They do not have the rights to Annatar, so instead they created Hallbrand, Sauron would not go anywhere near Galadriel or Gil Galad , because they can sense who he really is. He only managed to get close to Celebrimbor and that's how they both crafted the rings of power mainly the 7 for the dwarves and 9 for the men, but not the 3 elven rings. The Elven Rings of Power ( Vilya, Narya, and Nenya) were the last three made not the first like how they're shown in the last episode. Those 3 rings were also made by Celebrimbor alone without Sauron's knowledge. The stanger is very likely Gandalf, the line he spoke like "return to the shadow where you came from" as well as" follow your nose", that's Gandalf line. Plus its one of the Istari ( Wizard). He is probably wont be called as Gandalf, as he has many names as well. The problem though is that, he said that he will go to Rhun ( which is the Land in the far east). the Gandalf in Tolkien books , never go to the east , as its said in LoTR , Two towers: ...."Mithrandir among the Elves, Tharkûn to the Dwarves, Olórin I was in my youth in the West that is forgotten, in the South Incánus, in the North Gandalf; to the East I go not."

it could have been really cool if the show centered around sauron fooling the elves and making the rings as Galadriel with her mind powers tried to lift the veil of Saurons clouding magic or something as she got closer and closer to the truth until it was too late. Miriel and Galadriel's dresses look a lot like traditional Slavic dresses that were worn by aristocrats or higher status people.The collar design, gartering in the front and Miriel's jewelry look a lot like some of the Slavic dresses. Numenor is suddenly not inspired by Byzantium? No consistency in fashion can be seen in this show, unfortunately. And fabrics are, as I keep saying, awful. Why are they using cheap polyester stuff? 250 mln for a season and they couldn't splash some cash on fabrics? I think I would be less frustrated if it wasn't a high budget show with only 8 episodes in a season. In some shots Galadriel has dark roots again... How hard is it to buy one good wig for your main character? Or to dye her hair everyday? My classmates were managing it when they were in school (roots dying not the wig part, ofc).

This series kills me. All they had to do was not mess with the lore. Even though they don't have the rights to much the Second Age and thus did have to change some things to make a story, this is just...dumb. There's no need to rearrange story beats, change characters, completely ruin the narrative, flip the constraints of the physical universe on its head. The writers are just stupid.
