Unbelievable talent here. One thing that stands out to me is that the bassist and drummer are making virtually no eye contact but are totally locked in! Also, how Russ lets the players each have some time to have some solos.

Some of the most beautiful sounds a human being can experience. This transcends music for me. Takes me to another place. It's a true gift of the highest order. I could keep going. But I need to keep listening.......other worldly.....

I came across these guys in 2010. My only regret is that didn't find them sooner. Saw them live a few times. They had a meet and session after each of the shows I attended. It was a pleasure to speak with each these individuals. Brandon Fields', Russ Freeman's, Rico Belled's and Bill Heller's solo albums are extremely good. check them out if haven't them.

First witnessed the brilliance of Russ Freeman and the Rippingtons at the Bummbershoot music festival in Seattle Washington in the late 80's. What an introduction to this fabulous magic!!!!! Thank you for 35 years of jazz of the best kind!!!!

Since I love Jazz, I came across the Rippingtons back in 88 and have been listening to them ever since. When I was posted to CFB Baden in Germany, I used to slip the CD in the car stereo and cruise the Autobahn listening to the Rippingtons. On my many trips to St.Tropez, I used to listen to their Weekend in Monaco CD. Man I miss that.

First time I saw the Rippingtons was in Dallas in the early 90s. I have seen them so many times over the years I cannot count. Russ was very friendly and often stayed late to sign autographs. I have a pic with me, my son, Russ and Erik Marienthall. Welcome to the Saint James Club and Caribbean Breeze are my two favs, but nothing beats High roller live. My only regret is that I didnt get to see them when David Benoit was with them. So many different players were with them over the years, and it seemed like every time we saw them half the band was different? Still, no better acoustic player alive than Russ. His sound checks were better than most other concerts I saw. For his true fans, also check out his work with Greg Chaqico. Fantastic stuff on a Sunday morning.

As I stated on part 1…..Russ Freeman has a way with jazz that takes you somewhere relaxing. Whether is the tropics…or the mountains… is just brilliant smooth jazz! 🌴🤙🏼

As a long long listener to smooth jazz, since 1997, listening to the Rippingtons feels like I'm on a musical adventure that takes me out of my community, out of my hometown. I feel like I'm traveling to the Rocky Mountains, to South Dakota, and out west. Just imagine the possibilities that smooth jazz played by the Rippingtons can do for the soul.

More than twenty years ago I told Russ Freeman, your overdriven guitar and jazz is such an amazing combination, he agreed but also told me that smooth jazz radio didn't like distorted guitars. I'm always grateful he kept those sounds in his tunes. Timeless music, 30 years later I listen to it with the same great feelings than the first time. This morning I listened to Destiny from the album who brought me a lot of memories of my radio show and this afternoon, surprise, I found this awesome video! It's great to see Brandon Fields in the band, he was a founder member and in fact he played in Tourist in Paradise where Destiny and A Summer Night in Brazil are.
