Very informative video as i recognize a lot of it having lived in Effingham for 53 yrs. For the wanderer the Wotton estate is very much stuck in its past with the amount of signage...fencing, barbed wire & padlocked gates normally dictate you're not allowed, but they're bordering on fanatical . Albury on the other hand manage it very well, employing a very conservative approach with Michael Baxter at the helm who has done exceptionally well without being crass to members of the public. I still fish Cobham mill & have been in it to see it working, as i think they may still have an open day once a month on a Sunday.

Thanks for the comment. I wish I had said more about how considerate the Albury Estate is towards walkers when I made the Tillingbourne video that is also on this channel.

@@Frege100 The Gatwick Stream originates high in the hills near Pease Pottage/Handcross. It passes under the M23 and then railway just north of Balcombe tunnel and via what was a very ornate tiered water fall, drains out of Clay's Lake. This is at the far end of Parish Lane, Pease Pottage. The lake itself has had the dam raised by an enormous amount recently to act as a rainfall retention facility to protect all the new houses built in Crawley on the flood plain! Whether the ornate waterfall still exists I do not know. I would venture to suggest that the ultimate source is Handcross School pond, the overflow tumbles out in the direction of Clay's Lake. I used to fish all these places in the 70s and caught Rudd, Trout, Crucian Carp, Perch, Stone Loach, Dace. Also a lot of Grass Snakes! Sadly the stream is now surrounded by housing estates from the M23 to Horley.

@@KapitanKremmen Thanks. I wanted to follow the Gatwick Stream to its source but ran out of time. I hope the waterfall hasn't gone the way of the one on the Tillingbourne which was much diminished the last time I visited (before the summer drought). I really like Balcombe and scrambling around the sandstone outcrops nearby so I hope to visit Clay Lake... eventually.

@@Frege100 In fact the water source trail goes beyond this lake, above it, is a smaller shallow pond (saw a 30lb+ Pike there). Beyond this lies a further pond and then a small distance up the valley lies a large, thin, deep lake in the grounds of Cottesmore Preparatory School (Private). At the far end by the swimming pool is the source. This lake contains Rudd and a massive population of a strange alien fish known locally by anglers as carnivorous Japanese Sunfish, ( red spot behind the gills) ,although I have positively identified it as a type of cold water Cichlid fish. It is now found in many waters around Crawley. Legend has it that this final lake contains Muskellunge Pike from USA, stocked by the rich landowner in the 19th century, but who knows the truth. I poached this lake many times as a youth and was thrown out every time within 2 hours by the schools security staff! 😂

@@KapitanKremmen Fascinating. I was aware of the further lakes (but not the Muskellunge Pike) which I try to compensate for by pointing the camera into the distance. Sources are a challenge. The Mole also has a source called the Gatwick Brook that I think may rise even further south. I keep meaning to go back because I love the High Weld (sandstone does for me what fish do for other people) but probably not to film. The purist in me respects muddy springs but they do not often make for good opening shots.

It is at Wonham Mill. Take the road east (Wonham Lane) from Betchworth for about a mile. The pond is on private land but a public footpath runs along side it.

@@lauraduke5009 It is a private pond so presumably it would be up to the landowner. Some of the carp look quite ornamental so I suspect that whoever the landowner is will be quite protective of them.

It is the railway viaduct near Leslie Road just off Pixham Lane. It's where the Mole runs between Dorking and the foot of Box Hill near the A25. A Mill Stream anabranches by the viaduct which is incorrectly shown in the video as the Pipp Brook which actually joins the Mole 1/2 mile down stream. I corrected it in the Pipp Brook videos but didn't get around to changing this one because I no longer have the original footage, sorry!
