the orthodox byzantine music hymns are pure melody, and talk to the most gentle and noble parts of the soul, unlike secular music that usually appeals to not that noble parts as well. it is cathartic, beautiful and spiritual. it is truly a gift from God.

Au venit multi Romani Orthodoxi aici! I'm not Romanian, and neither am I Orthodox, but I do have respect for it, having lived in Romania for many years. I do consider Orthodoxy to be a better form of Christianity, more enlightened in many of its doctrines, especially those concerning salvation and redemption, from my understanding of it. It seems to me that this lady spends most of her time talking about outer trappings and ritual - she mentions doctrine, but doesn't really get into it.

Hi! Did you know there are two different kinds of Greek Orthodox there is new calendar and old calendar. I am old calendar. New calendar is a little different there are more like Catholic. Old calendar is original and you cannot take communion at a new calendar church if you are old calendar in same as if your new calendar. My saint is Saint Anna!
@MyMoldoveanu

I do not think this is correct. I do not know if you are referring to a particular situation, but Orthodox Churches both ones using the old Calendar (Jerusalem, Russia) and the ones observing the New Calendar (Greek, Antiochian, Romanian ...) ARE in communion and as such you can take communion regardless to which of the above canonic churches you belong to. However, check with your Parish Priest -- assuming you belong to a canonical church/parish.

+Nadia Mol. She is referring to a heretical Old Calendarists sect. Barely a handful of people bent on being "holier than thou", with a clergy mainly formed of defrocked priests who have over night become bishops in this sect. In a totally unorthodox, uncanonical and unhistorical manner, they consider the calendar to be *dogma*. They are severed from the Body of Christ, though we should all pray they come back into the fold. Their capital sin is arrogance and lack of submission to the Holy Synods inspired by the Holy Ghost. That's what happens when you don't have humility, instead of conforming to the Church you want the Church to conform to you (and *that* is Catholicism, dear first poster). It appeared as a schismatic movement in the Communist era when the Church was much weakened and there were many divisive interests. And this trojan horse was stocked and fed by some. Thanks be to God, it failed miserably in bringing disunity and dividing the Church.

Rusu Bogdan Our churches are much different than yours. We would get old country Orthodox Christians in our parish for a Sunday or two and then move on to a parish that practiced the heresy of philetism. The American church is not united, lots of infighting. MY daughter and I entered the church only to find out we were considered irregular by certain jurisdictions. The church is imperfect, the faith however is perfect.

Where people are, there are people problems. If you leave a church because of a man, you are not attending for the right reason. Give Glory to God and attend His church and receive His Body and His blood, repent, and forgive everyone. After all, even in the Lord's Prayer, we beg Our Father to forgive us, as we forgive others... so if we do not forgive, we will not be forgiven.

I love this video. It makes me immensely happy. I am a Romanian Orthodox Christian and was born into the religion. Seeing new converts such as yourself only increases my love for the great hidden treasure that Orthodoxy is. When you are born into Orthodoxy you may sometimes take it for granted, but the newcomers have such thirst for the teachings and such love for the Church that you can't help but try and work harder for the the gift you received so easily when you were just a baby. God, the Mother of God and all the saints bless and guide you, and may you have a fruitful Christmas fast, sister. You are an inspiration.

I felt the same way, but I grew up Old Roman Catholic as the Catholic church changed I always felt something was missing. The Jews had tradition, I knew Greeks and I felt they had their. At that time, Orthodox Church was block by culture. I was watching a movie and they had a wedding and it was Orthodox and I loved it. I started to explore. The rest is all history and I have been Orthodox for almost twenty one years. It all seemed like yesterday. I got married in Orthodox Church.

Hi. I did not hear your name in the videos. They made me cry. I watched them with my 12 years daughter. I'm happy for you that you are an orthodox. We are Romanian orthodox and live in Slough, England. We struggle to find an orthodox church in here that has the service in English. We go to a greek orthodox church that keeps the service in English 2 times/ month. We lived in Virginia for 8 years and had enough orthodox churches around us in there. You are blessed with so many orthodox churches in there. My daughter says that she gets tired and bored at church. The church we are going now does not have a choir, there is only a man who sings in there, divinely though, but I wanted my daughter to sing somehow in the church, hoping that singing the hymns will make her less tired and bored, that singing the prayers will connect her more to the faith and God. Do you have any advise for her? Thank you and God bless you for your decision and for sharing publicly your experience. You spread so much joy! Nadia.

I've been exploring the orthodox faith for over a month now. Coming from a Roman Catholic background, I find it difficult at times learning the differences between the two especially the theology. The very concept of Hell is so different than the western view of hell. Grace is so interesting in the orthodox faith. As I learn more about the orthodox faith, it has gotten me to think how I define the atonement, grace, but I still need to learn more.

I'm so glad I found your video :-) I'm being exposed to Orthodoxy through my boyfriend, who is a reader in an OCA church, and I like what I'm finding. I grew up attending my father's family's church, the Church of the Brethren (if you're not familiar with it, it's super-Protestant: very plain and simple, related to the Mennonites, I think), but I never felt fulfilled by it. For years, I thought it was because I didn't see a need for an organized worship service at a certain time and place and all that. I took a more spiritual, one-on-one approach. But now I think it actually wasn't enough. My boyfriend and I recently went to a festival at a local Greek church, where we got a tour of the sanctuary (if that's what it's called). There, I actually felt like I was in a holy place. There was this feeling of awe and peace in me simultaneously. I'd never, ever felt that in the Brethren church. There are other things, too. Knowing a little of the history of the Orthodox church gives it authority over all the other churches for me, too. My boyfriend also recently shared some videos with me of the miracle of the Holy Fire in Jerusalem at Pascha, which is brought about by... the Patriarch of the Orthodox church. All these things (and others) have me feeling that I, too, have found the Truth. Anyway, thank you for sharing your experiences and God bless you :-)

+Elijah S. Krenning Well, neither :) I don't think the Brethren practice excommunication. Or maybe the more conservative plain-dress-type Brethren do and we didn't; I don't know. I went to a more mainstream Brethren church and never heard excommunication mentioned. I haven't been in touch with them in a long time because I haven't attended in years, especially regularly. I'm seriously contemplating enrolling as a catechumen, though, and it's my understanding that when I do, I will need to cut ties with any other churches that might consider me a member. Hope this somehow answers your question :)

Thank you! Your testimony relates some to mine, I'm just trying now to (Pro. 27:17) let the Spirit use me. I believe there will be more than one denomination in heaven, but regardless of which congregation we worship with we should live in a way that our passion (study the Word of God) is contagious first to those closest to us and then to our neighbors. I'm speaking from dreams I have about my future. We'll adopt all the neighborhood children; to tear up our grass and eat any food whoever is in charge says they can (I hope I'm not too Scrooge about that). And at church we'll be sharing about this perseverance so other families can spread the passion to their neighborhood too. Perhaps I don't have enough real-life experience to know what kind of sacrifice I'm dreaming but they're red-letters in my other Bible so this G.Commission is the main point right?

Thank you for this. I watch as many conversion videos as possible because I am very much attracted to Orthodoxy since I attended a local Orthodox church for a seminary class. Here is the one thing that holds me up from converting - the insistence that Orthodoxy is the one true church founded by Jesus. In fact, the 1st century Christians were primarily, (what we would call) Messianic Jews/Messianic Gentiles who still attended synagogue and kept the Jewish feasts. It wasn't until some time later that there was a rift between the Jews and those coming into the Christian faith that caused them (believing Jews and Gentiles) to be kicked out of the synagogues. Separating from the Jews meant that new converts would not grow up in Messianic Judaism and so different customs and rituals began to form in order to fill the void in their liturgical services. If someone could show me something different, historically speaking, I would almost certainly convert.

I wonder myself how can a church that exalts mary through paintings and idolatry (a simple humble , righteous woman who God chose to conceive His Son ) , a church that exalts mere men with their created apostles and Christ´s appearences that the bible never spoke of them having those looks. A church that make babies to be baptized and not a conscient mature human being that chooses to baptize for committing in truth his or her life for Christ to quit the sinner life and to have a life in holiness. How can a church like this be `` the true church´´? because what the bible says and its in all of our new testament bibles is that, Christ NEVER taught anyone to idolize men with painting, He never taught to idolize mary or exault the apostles with paintings and external beautiful arts. THE SCRIPTURES ARE CLEAR , JESUS CHRIST WANTS OUR HEART ON HIM , OUR LIFES ON HIM , CHRIST IS ONLY ONE , SO ALSO HIS CHURCH , WE ARE MEANT TO WORSHIP ONLY THE FATHER AND HIS SON IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH . read the bible ,seek knowledge in God and you will see as they can see very clear also that no idolatry ,no exaulting paintings for men are taught or said by our Lord Christ . Jesus Love us guys . PEACE !!!

I see you got rid of my comments. Not surprised: The truth hurts. More for you to consider, even if you won't allow your subscribers to do same: "The Kingdom of God is near . . ." (Mark 1:14-15; also Matthew 4:17). "Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom" (Matthew 16:28; also Mark 9:1 and 13:30; also Luke 9:26-27 and 21:32)... "Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place" (Matthew 24:34). " . . .brethren, the appointed time has grown very short . . . the form of this world is passing away" (1 Corinthians 7:29, 31). " . . . the end of the ages has come" (1 Corinthians 10:11). " . . . in these last days [God] has spoken to us by a Son . . ." (Hebrews 1:1-2). " . . . he has appeared once for all at the end of the age to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself" (Hebrews 9:26). " . . . you see the Day is drawing near" (Hebrews 10:25). " . . . the coming of the Lord is near . . . the Judge is standing right at the door" (James 5:8,9). "The end of all things is at hand" (1 Peter 1:7). "Children, it is the last hour . . . it is the last hour" (1 John 2:18). " . . . the time is near" (Revelation 1:3). " . . . behold, I am coming quickly . . . the time is near . . I am coming quickly . . .Yes, I am coming quickly" (Revelation 22:7, 10, 12, 20). You know what answer the author of 2 Peter (a late epistle and not penned by him) gave in reply to the "scoffers" who asked, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep [died] all things continue as they were since the beginning of creation" (3:4). He said, " But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (3:8). But that won't wash; it smells of damage control. Christ had to speak in HUMAN terms--so that soon means what WE understand to be soon, near means near, at hand means at hand, quickly means quickly, etc. Not to speak in those terms would have made him a deceiver, since he supposedly knew the future. There's no getting around it. Anyway, if "Peter" was correct, where on earth did the "scoffers" get the crazy idea of an IMMINENT return? If he was correct, why was he the only one of the New Testament authors to speak in that way?

I'm glad that music is your language. Would you like to share your musical experience? Could you give a description of the different church music in the Orthodox Church? Some also speak of inspired music, as is said of inspired texts. Thanks .

This is the second time I viewed your video. I have been Orthodox for almost twenty years. I'm not really sure what had drawn me there, but once I was there, I knew where I belonged. I have been to Carpatho Russian, OCA, Ukrainian, and Antiochian. Some minor differences in customs, but all the same in everything else. One thing that sticks in my mind about the Carpatho's, is that they use a Plain Chant service, the congregation all sings together. The Russians (OCA), kinda thumb their noses to this. They think that a choir is needed. The church where I go now is Antiochian, and they have a fine choir. The Priest would like the services to be sung from the church camp book from the Antiochian Village. He is not having much success, everytime we start off with the plain chant, somewhere it switches to choir music. I kinda like the simple things, I was asked to be canter a few times at a local Carpatho church, simple is good. It turns out that you end up doing all the singing.

The Orth Church allows the Holy Spirit to move and work in each person and community - whereas other denominations try to engineer what the Holy Spirit does too much. Not totally, but more obvious.

wait a minute....you said the liturgy is in English. That isn't right. It should always be first in Greek, then other parts in English. A real Orthodox church, when with a foreign people, that is connected to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople always does it in the native tongue and some in English. It's never only in English, my dear. Also, as a side note, foreign priests, i.e. non-Greek priests, are always sent to a Greek Orthodox church to learn the liturgy in the original language, which is Greek...

I believe that you did much more for church with this two videos than ortodox church itself. And it is good thing, I think that word of common man MUST BE more important than word of priest or church in this matter of choice. People are the treasure of church and faith. Wihouth common dedicated people churches would be just a shell, empty and pointless. Thank you, you make my day! 🙂

IT'S DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN TO A NEW CONVERT, THAT ANYTHING THAT IS NOT OF THE CHURCH, IS OF SATAN, SO THEY MUST DENOUNCE THEIR PAST BELIEFS AND ATTUNE THEMSELVES TO THE FAITH OF CHRIST. VERY TOUCHING ACCOUNT SISTER,

Just finished watching your 2nd part video. Excellent commentary! God leads us converts in very specific ways knowing our hearts. The one thing I've come to see is that a person who comes to Orthodoxy is seeking the truth of God. Something in our hearts is being pulled towards the truth because we want it...we were guided to God by God. If a person really wants the truth of God, he/she will follow that pull. I can't explain it in any other way. It just pulls your heart...soul. I came from a Catholic background 22 years ago. The Orthodox faith is my whole life. I commend you for the courage you have to make these posts. Have a blessed Holy Week and Kalo Pascha!

This is an Encouraging story! I myself discovered that Orthodoxy is True Christianity. I am still in the process of converting, but I know that I am not going back to my Evangelical Protestant past. Orthodoxy is the full manifestation of Christs teaching and work. He is its foundation and the Church holds the teachings of the Apostles.

I am Ukrainian Orthodox and right now I'm 20. When I was a bit younger (17 years old I guess) I used to live with my grandma. In my room, there was a small icon with Mother of God. One day I woke up and I saw fluids that were dripping down from her eyes. They appeared out of nowhere. The holy icon had been hanging on the wall for years and nobody has ever touched it. As I had been told it's called "Miro". Isn't this miracle not enough to be confident that Orthodox is the true religion?

Sister, I believe that you are very sincere in what you are saying why you became an Orthodox Christian; I share your views about Orthodoxy (because I am a Historic Orthodox Christian); but I suggest that you always keep in mind (as I did years ago), that God is not particularly concerned with religion, with liturgy, with formality, ceremony, with rite or ritual. God is concerned with truth! God is interested with the reality, not with the pretense, or with the show! The official Orthodox Church in America and the world is better in theological understanding than the Catholics or Protestants, but is too caught up with the liturgical.

Christ was not an Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic or Protestant. Actually Jesus was a practicing Jew--who went to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. I believe that many Christians (of the three Christian traditions) are beginning to recognize that truth--however, they choose to handle that truth.

Kelley He was not an Eastern Orthodox but in the Orthodoxy you have the most clear and direct contact with living God, in an intimate mystical relation to Christ. Christ was born in the Old Testament period. Of course that time was no Christianity...

+Kelley well, considering that Roman Catholcism (papacy) and Protestantism (sola-scriptura) are only 1000 years and 500 years old respectively, we can easily rule either of those out as the Church that Christ built. *The Jewish Roots of Orthodox Christian Worship - Fr. I have heard people tell me that God was a Roman Catholic, a Jew, etc.etc. I have tried to share Church History and the Hebrew roots in the local church, however, there are times when it is met with strong resistance. Truth can be shocking at times. We have our well worn beliefs, and we tend not to want them to be exposed. I've observed in life that we humans have an ungodly need to think of ourselves as better and more worthy than the next guy. Reality is that Jesus was born of the tribe of Judah, a practicing Israelite/Jew, and did not come to overthrow what HaShem had already declared. Unfortunately history, and the people involved at that time, caused things to be set in motion where the baby (truth) got thrown out with the bath water.

Kelley Church History = Eastern Orthodoxy. Papism (1054 AD) and Protestantism (1517 AD) came about 1000 and 1500 years later respectively. please see the three 'christianity timeline' images i have posted on the website below [upper right hand side of home page]. it is protestantism that has thrown the baby with the bath water because protestantism was born from the papist reformation of Luther, Calvin, Zwingily, et al. No offense, but the so called 'messianic judaism' is simply an offshoot of protestantism which was in turn an offshoot of the heretic and blasphemous papism. It has nothing to do with Ancient Christianity or Judaism. Please see the video i linked earlier where Fr. Bernstein addresses these false movements. He was formerly affiliated with the Protestant 'Jews for Jesus' movement. Orthodox Christians don't use words such as 'HaShem' or the Tetragrammaton to refer to the Lord God, but we use the language of the *New Testament* and the *Greek Septuagint* (LXX) which is what the early Chrisitans used. Orthodox Christianity has preserved the liturgical aspects of the Old Testament which was only a prophetic shadow of the New Testament. See the 'typology' link on the website below. Regards, theOrthodoxFaith (*dot*) org ps. i apologize for any bluntness in my response but i typed this up rather quickly. if you have specific questions i will be glad to respond.
