@@redsquarejay, good to hear it man. Don't let anyone tell you that this industry is dead and no fun anymore. 25 years so far pulling flatbed and stepdeck, owner operator for 22 years, this industry is what YOU make of it. I raised 6 kids on trucking, own a home and 3 trucks, you just have to be smart. Still rolling my old freightshaker, using paper log books and I am free, having a great time everyday. Get yourself a solid year of experience, no accidents, and be a professional in and out of the truck, and you will get a good gig anywhere. Be safe brother and good luck on joining the rest of us roadhammers.

50TNCSA, beg to differ with you on the proper slang term for the trailer, but up here in the northeast, New Hampshire, we do refer to them as "lowbeds" not lowboys, I don't think I've ever heard anyone call them that up here, and when they do we all look at eachother cause we know they're not local....keep it between the ditches!

@lupischuckle the cowboy image is nothing but a Hollywood thing. really in essence, cowboys only existed in the movies because herding cattle is just another type of farming. now for the involvement of country music and trucking, all that is because a lot of the true truckers, and not the wanna be's grew up with country, so thats all they want to listen to, and their are country songs, and artists out their that relate to trucking. some of them being the road hammers, rhett akins, Kathy Mattea

My comment was to say how the Motoring Public in general views "Our" Profession! I don't think I have to tell you that Truckers are not respected Today as they were when we were kids.I also shouldn't have to point out that the quality of driver and the hauling of cheap freight is causing a "race to the bottom effect" in the industry.yes, its still a Noble Profession, one filled with a lot of Crooked Shit! Drivers,Shippers, receivers,Brokers,DOT,and politicians...Oh and Screw the ATA !

@2550Dustin It's not other multi-ethnical people doing it, it's the companies that are under-cutting. Want to see some BS? Talk to the CR England drivers, ask them about their pay, ask the IC's about how they are getting screwed. Money is with the smaller companies, or with the bull haulers. Heyl is a great company, but anyone in the industry has their preferences. Another great company is Prime, check them out and you might find a little more happiness.

Just remember. They didn’t cut the rates down. Since they were willing to do it for cheaper, capitalism won. Blame America’s people for becoming so cheap they won’t even pay and extra 1$ for a gallon of milk. Etc Blame every person for squeezing every last dollar of profit out of their businesses. Blame large company owners that are publicly sold on the market, unlike a small trucking business, making money with their stock and able to squeeze you out of a job by hiring someone cheaper. .. etc etc etc. the economics lesson people aren’t willing to stomach. You were sold out by your own selfish greedy countrymen, not the new guy. Cuz 30,000$ a year to him, is like 500,000$ to you. That’s why he did it for cheaper. Mmmm the down side of free market capitalism.
