Unfortunately they won't do it. If Scarborough, Karrinyup, Mirrabooka, Morley, Gt Eastern Hwy, Optus Stadium, Curtin, UWA isn't happening then I think this is a long way down the pecking order. I'd like it considered on existing rail lines then moving to tram tracks from Fremantle, past Fisherman's harbour and connect with Cockburn. That would make sense but may never happen.

Agreed, there are other places that would benefit more from trams.

If the service is provided by a bus, why spend more ? Incremental steps up are to an ebus service and then trackless trams.

Rather have the bendy bus than the trackless tram tbh. It would cost so much to implement the latter while it's more or less just a longer bus.

@@kingcoong I agree that it is essentially a long bus but implementation doesn't need to be terribly expensive. Last year, I saw them operating in Chengdu where they do have an (expensive) elevated track. There are now 3 of them being used in the City of Stirling using existing roads. If you live in Perth, go take a look.

The problem with Rockingham light rail is that you then have other key areas of Rockingham neglected. Is it better to just have buses servicing Rockingham? I think so. Light rail only becomes attractive if it can utilise existing heavy rail tracks to move further distances from Rockingham quickly avoiding congestion. Otherwise, surely buses are preferable. Investment would be better placed tunnelling to redirect heavy rail into Rockingham central than heavy investment into light rail. Makes no sense.

I reckon Freo to Mandurah train line with a fast light rail service is important. To bring people into Fremantle. Currently its quicker for people in Leeming to travel to Osborne Park to work than to Fremantle. Options are Canning Hwy to Canning Bridge, Leach Hwy to Canning Bridge or Bullcreek or South St to Murdoch. Alternatively, consider an extension of train or light rail on tracks through to Cockburn Central to connect with the Thornlie connection. The other light rail really required is north through to Mirrabooka. Also consider options through to Curtin VicPark and Stadium.

Just use trackless trams

While trackless trams are cheaper to implement than light rail. They have higher maintenance and upkeep costs compared to light rail.
