I'm keeping my eye out for one now. Thanks for the review.

I have often been tempted to buy an arranger, but I never have. I didn't want to be stuck with being constrained to a limited number of preset Styles which can fade in interest and date the keyboard over time. But, that Orchestrator Morphing feature where you can combine elements of 2 styles together is just brilliant! You have exponentially increased the number of possible style variations and enhanced the creative possibilities for the user. I think this is an example of a great feature that never took off for whatever reason. I sometimes combine to disparate drum patterns together and come up with something very interesting. I have not seen this kind of style blending function in any subsequent arrangers, which is really a shame.

It is indeed. The only thing I would have liked to see more of in the VA3 is a bit more synthesizing capability. You can't even adjust attack and decay. I guess the 3641 sound options makes up for that!

That chassis is massive and impressive! Ahead of it's time and getting rare/collectable, year 2000, original price $1200USD, I believe. Too bad it uses the 3.5 floppy disks, but it's definitely a keeper if ya got one regardless.

Yeahhhhh silly me, I sold it to a very happy buyer right after making the review (as is the way of things here at GF) ...I'm thinking I should have kept it. I'll have to eat my feelings with my MC307 which appears to have all the best sounds of the VA3 plus more dynamic controls... review coming soon ;)

I just managed to pick one up second-hand. Missing the two floppy diskettes. Does anyone have the files that I could download and save to two FDD's? Thanks.

Could you talk about the variphrase part? It has the option to record some styles and do the Vp magic to them but I didn’t see how it compares to Vsynth range…

Yeah I made a separate video about Variphrase (just search up "Variphrase Gearfacts" and it should appear) but to be honest I didn't get far with it. I've heard some people make miracles with it though!

Still a very viable keyboard today I think. Some outstanding sounds hidden inside that beast. I'd buy one......if I could afford it AND find one for sale. Only a VA7 on eBay UK for £250 or offer! Collection only a loooooonnnnngggg way from me anyway. Oh well. I did find a Roland GW8 in really excellent condition though for £50 and not far from me. My hoarding still goes on ..........

I know the feeling -all of those feelings you've mentioned in fact. People never want to freight their keyboards do they? Sometimes I contact them and say "Hey if I SEND you a keyboard case AND arrange the courier, would you sell it to me then?" ...gets about a 50/50 success rate :/

Yes very nice keyboard however all of those sounds are on or can be made with Reason, with is My Daw of choice due to its very realistic devices that I can link to My MPK49 midi controller.

Absolutely, even the average phone can make these sounds. I think the appeal for some people, though, is the fact that it's separate from a computer. Not saying one is right and one is wrong, it's just that humans seem to be incredibly diverse when it comes to their interaction with music.

@@gearfacts Thue I have two old Yamaha keyboards and a Mininova but there not needed at all but there just fun and looks better if I was to go live.
