I love how Keith just rips out his acoustic guitar strings and especially love his upstrokes! And then when I see the pure joy his weathered face makes upon certain chords, I think fuck how I look, I’m 47 with 3 kids and 2 Grandkids! Why should I be so hard on myself for not looking 35 anymore? I’m learning how to play guitar, and if ever sound like Keith Richards, I will be just fine!

I think being able to play like yourself is more important than trying to play like someone else. Just keep practicing. There's some great tutorials on KZitem to get you started, and then to encourage you to stretch your abilities a bit further. Personally, I watch Danny McAvoy and Dru James cos they're the style I like. Keep your guitar out on a stand near your sofa or bed, so it's more likely you will pick it up casually. It doesn't matter what you play or what happens, it's never Wrong, It's the Right way to get better. (Edited cos autocorrect got it wrong. Lol)

True. But I feel you should never try to imitate a guitar player style, anyway. Get inspired yes, but you won't be an interesting guitarist if you simply try to copy someone else. Groove, timing and feel are intimately personal. Keef, while never a great technical player played his own way, that's what made him compelling as you said.
