You mean: Nobody can touch Mick for stage presence, and I'm glad Mick Taylor, Keef, and even Ronnie Wood for the most part are chill guitar players, because in almost all of the bands from 1967-1992 Jimmy Page, (esp around 1973) is one of the few I believe, who is incredible enough to have the swagger and attitude the way he did, and get away with it. In the 80s too many half assed guitar players tried to play that and they just looked stupid! Regarding the Stones. Though they are not in any way a back up band to Jagger in the way the Heartbreakers were to Tom Petty, the band definitely is a reactive band to Jaggers genius at the helm! And I'm sure they would agree.
@cowboysfan782008

I almost saw them in 82' at 13. Did see them in 89', 94', 98', 2000, 2003, & 2006. 94' was the best show, but in 2000 I saw them from above the stage at the Anaheim Pond (Now The Honda Center), and I swear from above they were as lively as 25 yr olds and it blew me away. After 2006 I'd seen enough. Still good, just older and different. 82' was really the last time to see them young. 89' with Guns and Roses wasn't that good, seemed rusty, and 94' at the LA Col was amazing. Chilli Peppers opened, and no one even cared.

@@rankoujkic4559 The Sex Pistols were not very good musicians and they were here and gone.... just like that. They really were a flash in the pan, though Punk had a big impact on all popular music. Yes, the Stones showed that they can do that too! The t-shirt is hilarious, though a lot of people don't get the sarcasm/irony. And the pants, well, damn, who needs safety pins when you've got trousers made out of hefty bags taped together with red duct tape? This is just about a comedy act, parodying the Sex Pistols, which is just so damned funny. What a mess!

They surely wouldn't admit at the time, but a performance and song like this proofs they reckoned with- and were influenced by the young punk-rock / new-wave bands. The Stones have always been very good (and clever) in adapting to what happened in contemporary music, without losing their old fan-base. Also on Some Girls was the dance-able Miss You, which connected them to the Disco trend. This all while keeping the recognizable Stones sound. A big accomplishment.

This is how I read this: It's 1978 and the punk thing is going strong, and I know the Sex Pistols played Dallas in early 78' because my family moved from Dallas to OC CA in Jan of 78'. Mick is on a mission not to be old hat so he's running on extra fire. The tune starts, he runs back towards Charlies drums and Ronnie provides him with a lit doobie, an offer he can be seen refusing. He then turns to his life partner and says "come on old man lets do this", Keef snaps to attention and they light it up. MJ is NOT going to be intimidated by the likes of the pistols, clash, or a young sassy bloke named Billy Idol of generation x. Anyway that's how I read the start of this song/performance.
