Nice to see a fan of Lofty Fiber here on KZitem. Just bought my new loom from them and was planning to do a simple straight draw and play around with it, but I got intrigued with your weaving -- it's a nice twist on straight draw. So thanks for inspiring me!

The looms will be there and ready for you when you’re ready for your next project :) I have a few video ideas lined up but it takes a while to record and edit them (more than I thought it would, anyway!). I’ll keep trying for one a month

I love the baby blanket and I appreciate your walking us through the process from the beginning to the finished piece. I am sure that the blanket will be long cherished by the mama and baby. I am new to 4 shaft weaving and am eager to find some patterns for beginners. A week ago, I welcomed a gently loved Jane into our home. It was already warped for a community event' so I lucked out in not having to do that. I have some basic 4 shaft pattern instructions, so I have been "playing" to get the feel of it. I find a lot of inspiration from online but am building my own library. I have many tapestry books but only a couple on 4 or 8 shaft weaving. Can you recommend a good beginner book or two that I should have in my library?

I always find myself going to Anne Dixon’s 4-shaft book and Strickler’s 8-shaft book for draft inspiration. For actual instruction on weaving, Jane Stafford’s School of Weaving is how I learned everything!

Well done. 99% of my weaving is registered Tartans, because that's my thing, but I get a few baby blanket or sofa throw wedding gift requests tossed in my queue for fun. On the occasion that I get a yarn choice that is just not suitable for warping, to include some of the mill runs from my own alpacas, I find the closest match in a yarn that is warp hearty. It is not worth my time, effort, or frustration to constantly be dealing with breaks, repairs, weights, or worse, a gift that will fall apart with use. I keep a copy of Handwoven Baby Blankets by Tom Knisely on my shelf as I am sometimes limited on brain power. Simply changing up warping order or colours can drastically change every tie-up in the book, so the inspiration is endless. Keep up the videos. I'm enjoying watching your journey.

So sorry about your breakage issues! I just finished a project with Coast on my rigid heddle and had no trouble at all. My sett was 12 epi because I was going for lots of airy drape, so maybe that’s what made the difference🤷🏻♀️ Anyway, the blanket is lovely, great matching of pattern to yarn

I think I may try it on my rigid heddle loom now that you've said that. I could see it being much gentler on the yarn.

Thanks for the video. I loved your process and the resulting blanket looks gorgeous. Will you use that yarn as warp again?
@TheTallWeaver
6 ай бұрын
I don't think so -- it's an amazing weft but I will probably just use a quality 8/2 cotton or super-fine wool as the warp next time.

I have not understanding of the process but I love the way you explain everything and of course I love the blanket! If the thread broke during the weaving, isn't a danger that blanket will get holes in it?
@TheTallWeaver

It actually becomes much stronger once it’s washed and agitated-as long as the new and old threads are secure and overlap a bit it’s quite sturdy :)

Hi, great job! I found your IG page 2 months ago and followed because of your huge collection of Loüet looms 😬. I was pleasured surprised to find your KZitem channel. Like and subscribe 👍🏻 I bought my first Loüet Jane loom (70/8) just few weeks ago. Now I in the middle of my first scarf. I was super curious about your video because I decided to use Holst Garn - Coast for my first project as well. Right now I weaved almost 70 cm of my scarf and I realised that my measure of tension was not right. I’m from Europe so I use metric measurements. If I transfer my tension in inches it will be around 25 epi (instead yours 18 epi). And my pattern definitely not square but rectangular (tartan)… Grrr, if I just saw this video just 3 days earlier 😅 Please keep make videos. You doing great! Here is a lot of topics that you can make videos about. My favourite then people tell a story of project from start to finish just like you did. It’s always interesting to hear about what person keep in his mind in the beginning of project vs final result. All the best, Misha

Welcome to the Louet club! I love my Jane-definitely the best table loom I’ve ever used. Coast is definitely a bit finicky. If you have enough warp you might be able to cut it off and re-sley wider? So annoying when a project turns out not as you planned.

Thanks! I think I’ll keep weaving as I go but for future I’ll change my measure method. Info in your vid helps me to figure out how to calculate tension. Coast is a bit sticky but absolutely gorgeous. Love this yarn for knitting.
