The Santísima Trinidad was an 18th century Spanish Navy ship of the line launched by Charles III and sunk in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
It was a colossal and majestic ship, but it was riddled with construction defects and ineffective for the main task of the Spanish Navy in the second half of the 18th century: to protect trade and communications with America against Great Britain. Turned into a symbol, its mediocre naval performance has been overlooked.
