Rangers version of the Sash Here am I a loyal Rangers fan Down the Copland Road I came To see the famous Glasgow team All of honor and of fame And to tell you of their victories That they won in days of yore And how my father watched them play In the scarf he always wore Sure, it is old but it is beautiful And its colors they are fine It was worn when he watched Grieg and McCoist Jardine, Waddell and Gasgoine My father wore it when he was a youth In the bygone days of yore And at every game I love to wear The scarf my father wore We will always follow Rangers, Both at Ibrox and away And when our team takes to the field For them, I hope you'll pray We will follow in their footsteps As my father did before And I'll proudly wear around my neck The scarf my father wore Sure, it is old but it is beautiful And its colors they are fine It was worn when he watched Grieg and McCoist Jardine, Waddell and Gasgoine My father wore it when he was a youth In the bygone days of yore And at every game I love to wear The scarf my father wore Whenever I'm at Ibrox Park My favorite team to see I hope in truest Glasgow style You will always welcome me We will sing "The Sash" and "Derry's Walls" As we did in days of yore And at every game, I'll proudly wear The scarf my father wore! Sure, it is old but it is beautiful And its colors they are fine It was worn when he watched Grieg and McCoist Jardine, Waddell and Gasgoine My father wore when he w as a youth In the bygone days of yore And at every game I love to wear The scarf my father wore

An unforgettable tune. I have family from Ulster. They are MacBains and I remember them visiting in the 1970s. And we would visit them. I remember one day I was wearing my Scottish football team tracksuit and a Land Rover full of soldiers drove by and waved at me. I realised it was probably due to what I was wearing. My Ulster family come from Armagh.

There's a brilliant story in Michael Ignatieff's "Blood and Belonging". The guy that makes the Lambeg drums goes to the Republic to get the goatskins. He gets plastered with the overwhelmingly nationalist farmers at lunchtime. He has a good voice, and belts out the rebel songs. And then he always gives them the Sash, "Just to keep them happy"!
