If they had just committed to this, the final episode might have actually been worth watching. I imagine the last episode following Devin on his first Christmas as Santa while Candy directs everything from a command center, both of them playing to their strengths. There are few hiccups, some shenanigans, but in the end, they all come together to make it one of the best Christmases on record. Everyone celebrates with Devin center stage. Candy is a little miffed but takes a deep breath, confident that even though she's not in the spotlight, she is still a force of positive influence and change. She's about to turn and leave when Devin notices and calls her over. Devin gives an awkward but passionate speech on how he couldn't have done anything without Candy and declares them both equal partners. The episode could end on a new statue of Devin and Candy as the first ever duo Santas. If the show had just dropped the agenda, this could've been something worth talking about. We get the last few seconds of every characters reaction to everything. Candi's friends are having their problems, her family is falling apart, Santa and his wife sign a divorce paper after Devin became the new Santa and we end the scene with Candi just sitting by the fire looking completely destroyed. Next episode is Candi trying to reconcile with her friends and family, make things right and admit she screwed up. And it wouldn't be a Christmas special unless Christmas was in trouble. On Devins first night he's having trouble and Candi was the only one who talked him through the problem and managed to get everything back into order. After a successful Christmas run that was saved from a potential fuck up, everyone celebrates. Devin gets praised as the great Santa Claus while Candi is in the background watching it all. She does feel down about not being thanked for saving Christmas, but her sorrow was dashed away when a little girl wishes her a Merry Christmas. Hearing this, made this all worth it and Candi smiles while saying Happy Holidays. BOOM!!! I fixed the finale

Really, that’s the main character the audience is supposed to side with?

the whole scene just gives me the vibes of good writers under bad leadership. like you have the realization arc with redeeming qualities for both characters that could lead to satisfying ending that could sum up the whole series properly, but then the higher ups stepped in choking from essence of good writing and quickly made a decision to fuck it up, make candy regect santa's offer while being a huge dick about it and still being portrayed as the gud guy while also turning the santa into your "yet another twisted villain" and just turn the whole good writing into a fucking gag for a show with enough frustrating jokes on it's own. scariest part being that you could still feel the effort and time put into that scene, seeing as if there were people in the writer staff who really cared about telling a good story, its just that they didn't have the freedom to do so...

At the risk of referencing something very divisive, "I can learn" is a crap excuse to try and get into an important, powerful position when there are other options. This isn't a starter position, it's something that requires you know how to do the job from the second you take it. This was honestly a good scene, till the end and there was still a way to save this series. After cursing Santa out, Candy gets hammered drunk and becomes belligerent. Candy stumbles around the streets and comes across a statue of Santa and decides to deface. She ends up falling down and knocking herself out. While Candy is knocked out she meets an angel or ghost who shows her a future where she did get the job of Santa, but she became a corporate tyrant and basically poisoned Christmas. This shows Candy why she would be a bad Santa, but show her she still has use and value in Santa Inc. Candy then wakes up in the hospital, she apologizes to Santa, and then goes and helps run the company happy with her position and seeing the value in her work.

As a professional Character Actor who's worked for Disney and Universal, this couldn't be more true. It's the difference between a really good babysitter and say something like a kid's magician: One knows how to manage kids, gets them to do what they want in a way that benefits them rather than the kids themselves, not necessarily in a malicious way, but you're more putting them in a state of quiet and contempt than actually being there for them. Being able to actually appreciate the joy and smiles children produce and not only that, but keep it there for as long as they want, is not something that's just taught cause it actually has to be something you as a person enjoy doing. Relating and entertaining a child cannot be treated as a chore or task, it has to be treated as a given opportunity that you want to do out of priority, not necessity. To a large extent, it doesn't matter how much went into production, how much was planned ahead, what finances were handled to get us here, cause all of that fumbles if the people who are in direct contact with the kids can't bring out their joy and happiness. The children don't care what business tools and decisions led to get here, all they want is who's right in front of them to reach out with a comforting atmosphere. I find it baffling how the lady elf didn't understand that. Like bitch, your whole operation is MAKING KIDS HAPPY, if you can't do the bare minimum of what's literally the foundation of the company, you need to step aside and let those who do take over

They had a great thing going here. From the start, the show is set up to _look_ like Candy's being rejected or not taken seriously because she's an opinionated, competent woman in a man's world and all the guys at the top are either _intimidated_ by that or simply too _dumb_ to see her genius (and also she might be a bit of a jerk), but _THEN,_ it turns out she's not being brushed aside because she's a _woman_ (and a little bit tricky to get along with); she's being disregarded because, _despite_ her obviously high competence in nearly every other aspect of the job, she's _equally obviously_ lacking in an _absolutely vital_ qualification for the role _(and_ she's a total _nightmare_ to have as a coworker). But after all these years, her boss _recognizes_ her talent and intelligence _out loud,_ offering her the job she's always wanted, with the smaller, if flashier, part she can't do snipped off and given to someone who can, and together they'll be an unstoppable duo and change the whole company for the better, and boy, oh boy, I can't wait for season 2! Oh. No. Wait. The show doesn't _realize_ the fantastic twist it set up to guide the course of the next season. The earlier episodes _weren't_ a set-up at all. We're _absolutely_ meant to think that a woman being passed over for consideration as the CEO of a major corporation in an _extremely_ PR-heavy sector because she's a living PR nightmare _is_ exactly as bad as if she'd been passed over just because she's a woman. The creators really _do_ think that if you get the dream job you've worked _decades_ for, with all the responsibilities, perks, and privileges, but don't get _fame_ and _general public recognition and praise_ to go along with it, you should flip the table and storm out, and that this is the behavior of a stable, healthy adult with a reasonable level of self respect, and not a petulant woman-child with an ego problem. ... Aaaand now she's grievously injured a man. ... Aaaand now she's leaving him to die alone, in agony, in the freezing street. But it's supposed to be _totally okay,_ because his "OH MY GOD, YOU JUST HIT ME WITH A CAR!" screaming contained a little angry and misogynistic language, and that apparently outweighs the ordinary moral weights of Vehicular Manslaughter and Failure to Stop and Render Aid. Well, that was... a show... while it lasted.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that this scene was -- up until the very end -- written by a team of emotionally mature, intelligent, and artistically gifted people, because the effort put into Santa's logical and well thought-out proposal actually rings true of creative talent and narrative storytelling. If they had doubled down and gone with this, the show might have been able to actually redeem itself, and end on an interesting, fun finale with a proper moral lesson behind it about putting aside one's ego for the betterment of all. Candy could have shown some humility and proper character growth, letting go of her desire to be the "first female Santa" and instead prioritizing the success of the company, and through it, the children she claimed to serve. It could have been a message about moral strength over personal gain, and how there are more important things in life than fame and the spotlight. Instead, the writers decided to tow the line, and stuck to the same guns they'd shown for the entirety of the series. In an unfortunately unsurprising twist, the writers decided they'd just keep on digging deeper and deeper with "the message," and the result was the dumpster fire that we all were cursed with.

The older brother could plan the entire christmas to every last present under the tree, but he lacked the heart behind it. Kinda like Candy. Arthur is not fast nor is he tech savvy... But he resembles the entire mood and spirit of christmas, knowing pretty much every kids name and story as he reads all their letters. Though unlike Candy, the brother actually sees this, and knows that to have the best christmas he needs to set aside his pride, and continue as he was. While Arthur can be the heart. and THATS how you take this storyline and make it wholesome.

I guess it's like a doctor that doesnt care about people at all, but is good at their job. She wants the glory and recognition. I feel this scene wouldn't be so bad if she had more redeeming qualities like we're shown her trying to win others approval, the effort she puts in and all the setbacks and hardship she faced that her want to be respected in the first place. Have her storm her then maybe later have her reflect on her actions. If this scene was portrayed as a breaking point for her character where her dreams were shattered I feel this could've worked.

Look I understand breaking the glass ceiling and all that but in this case her weaknesses were laid out as well as her strengths and maybe yes she can learn to be good with kids, as equivalently as Devin could learn to be more competent for the job. Really if the skills were reversed, she was great with kids, but Devin knew how to run it, she probably would have been offered the role as Santa, but will have little control of the background which Devin will be in charge of. (Of course they probably would have had her still say "F U" for being just a figurehead and probably justify it by saying she is being used as an object). It's scenes like this (albeit ruined) that make my appreciation for something like Monsters University go up where they did this message right there and screwed it up here. Monsters University Mike tries so hard to be a scary monster like those that inspired him but, no matter how hard he tries, studies, he is seen as not scary. But, he learns and realizes what he can do. Train and coach someone scary like Sully. He's scary but lacks the book smarts or techniques to make amazing scares. All he has is his roar and that's it. Mike is able to use his strengths in what he knows in order to better Sullivan's scare potential. He may not be the big time scarer he wants to be but, is ok and content with doing what he knows best for others to do their part well. He doesn't get a big ego or become a whiny brat over not becoming the big scarer like he wanted to be. Or like a play. The actor/actresses are only one part of a play and/or musical. They can act or sing in incredible fashion. Be the best of their school or local area. But, no set, no band to play music for the singing portions, no lighting, no costume, etc. It all falls apart. Santa has a point here and they just force him to be evil to make candy look better by comparison. Because there really is nothing remotely likeable about her. Her ego and pride got in the way. Caring more about getting the credit. Despite being the polar opposite of what Santa should be about. Santa is in appearance supposed to be jolly, friendly, and cares about the kids and their happiness. This doesn't sound like candy at all. She's grating, unbearable, can't stand interacting with kids, a hypocrite (Hates when a creepy guy hits on her at the bar *understandable* but does and says nothing when the reindeer lady sexually harasses Devin the intern right in front of her). She's just beyond unpleasant and unlikeable as a protagonist. If you want to do an asshole protagonist, it can be done. They can be an asshole but need something about them we can relate to or still like about them. No being the main protagonist isn't reason alone to like them. Be like Bojack horseman. He's funny, is working on self improvement in trying to be a better person. He has some flaws and characteristics people can identify with. Candy wanting to be the first female Santa sounds good in principle, however the execution is just shit. She comes across more as a mouth piece trying to push an agenda as opposed to someone we should care about and root for in trying to achieve this goal. She's not funny, not sympathetic. So all you have is an ungodly horrible protagonist who's either as bad as, slightly better than, or worse than the other assholes infesting the show. I shouldn't have to like her by default because the other options worse.

I know nothing about this show. As a woman with an abrasive personality: having her accept the decision but then later burst into tears because everything she’s ever wanted is going up in flames for not having a cuddly temperament/ not being likable enough, and showing a creeping resentment for Devin being incompetent but likable, would’ve been a complex twist on this. Maybe a montage of her in her youth trying to reach out and be friendly but get slapped down for not doing it “right,” showing how she used to care about people but being constantly rebuffed beat it out of her. Maybe her ambition, working twice as hard as everyone else, was her proof to herself that being a workhorse is just as important as being a show horse. And then this comes as a slap in the face because being unlikable buried her dreams. Resentment that Devin gets the CEO salary and recognition just for being pleasant while she gets the workload.

What if these lines are from one of Candy’s friend trying to comfort her instead, trying to say that maybe _this_ is why Santa didn’t choose her and it’s later shown he just didn’t want a woman or whatever, rather than Santa himself calmly and rationally explaining himself and offering a solution in a manner that, frankly, is _far_ more professional than a lot of bosses in the real world even are, and also far more professional than Candy has been willing to be the entire time.

okay, I've been commenting this everywhere I can, but I do hope Alexandria Rushfield keeps improving, but this was definitely a big misstep for her as a creator but near as I can tell, it may not be her fault, since she does seem to know how bad the show was (since I can't find anything of her even talking about it) and actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Seth and Sarah did most of the heavy lifting when it came to the show's story (guess that explains the quality of it)

this is basically the lagoon talk in monsters university except the abysmal reaction from Candy.

The only thing I remember about this show is that around the time the first trailer came out was when KZitem made it to where you couldn’t see dislikes on videos anymore

Why did they end it with “Fuck you”? Seriously, what moral/lesson IS the audience supposed to take away from this scene?

The most beautiful, profound irony of this scene to me is that despite all of Candy's whining about the role of Santa being unfairly male-dominated, she ultimately failed to get the position not because she lacked a stereotypically _masculine_ trait... but because she lacked a stereotypically _feminine_ one.

If we still gotten the writers of Harley Quin (2019/2020) they could've easily rewritten gad retooled this scene abit and not only could've been wholesome but dare I say way better. But y'know what; be a bitter piece of coal for what I care, cause you lost more then your chances!

In their playbook, being good with kids or old people is not an important virtue.

All she had to do was say, “okay”. One word could’ve changed everything

Pitch Meeting Guy: So then Santa’s like ‘you’re not good with kids, it doesn’t really make sense to have a Santa that’s not good with kids.’ Producer Guy: Yeah, that is actually a really good point. Pitch Meeting Guy: What? NO! HE’s the bad guy. Producer Guy: Are you sure? kinda sounds like SHE’s the bad guy in all of this.

I can't believe that such well-written scene even appeared in this BS of a show. Like , the writers can still make something tolerable only that to be screwed for the sake of late-stage Family Guy humour.

Santa was probably the only well written, if not the only written character, and was the only positive thing I say say about the show.
