You all realize that signature guitars NEVER were about 'rewarding' good guitarists, but always were a marketing scheme to sell more guitars, right? Guitar companies don't care about how good a guitarist is, but about how many fans they have that may be willing to buy a guitar with their name on it. MGK is one of the most popular rock artists/guitarists right now, so why shouldn't Schecter release a signature model for him?

Yes, but it used to take a GOOD guitarist to successfully market a signature model. That association lent credibility to the instrument. This is some dude who failed at being a rapper, got run out of the genre because he picked a fight with Eminem, and decided pop-punk was a safer option. He's probably best known for being the dude currently nailing Megan Fox. My thoughts? These guitars will sell more because of the features than the fact it has MGK's name on it. I'd also wager that there will be people who won't buy it because his name is on it (and the price increase signature models always have), who might have otherwise been interested in a guitar with those specs.
@vuri3798
2 жыл бұрын
@@bubkusjones Naaah I'm pretty sure that's nostalgia... I remember they made Avril Lavigne signature Squiers back in the days (and it had quite a long run), even before that there was Kiss trying to turn anything into merch, I don't know how things started but I wouldn't be surprised if they actually were the first ones trying to milk the cow. As long as you were mainstream you had your chance. Let's keep in mind that quite recently Ibanez actually let Tosin Abasi design his own guitar before he moved to his own brand, we've had Brent Hinds and Jim Root getting some attention, Zack Myers made the most beautiful PRS a few years ago in my opinion... It's just all accross the place.

If you remove the MGK name from the guitar this would probably be a hit. Maybe the color is a little eye catching but I feel like that’s the point, I think a lot of guitarists would love this thing for how simple it is and ESPECIALLY with the fit and finish myself and many others love from Schecter. We all know MGK is a polarizing figure but it’s a fact that MGK is pretty much the face of the guitar for a lot of kids and makes them want to learn how to play. I know from speaking to a lot of teens around my age MGK and Taylor Swift are their Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix, they look at these pop stars on stage playing bright pink guitar rocking TF out and think that they want to do that and so they go out and buy a guitar. He’s be associated with the brand for years and is a major artist that has major pull when it comes to younger people, this only makes sense to do and getting mad just makes videos talking about it do better.

@bradleyard4195

@@Iceman93x At least they're inspiring kids to pick up a guitar. Just a few years ago, there was a magazine article that declared the guitar, and guitar-based music, dead. EDM was the new, big thing, and everyone should put down their instruments and learn how to use a DJ rig and a synth, because that's how music, at least the stuff that mattered, was going to be made from then on. Fast forward just over four years, and guitar sales are breaking records, and not just to people who already play; people have been learning to play in droves, and they cite Taylor Swift, MGK, Ed Sheeran, and so on as their inspiration to do so. As they learn the instrument more there's an excellent chance they're going to discover those "better influences" you're talking about. Hell, just look at some of the reaction channels on here and see what the younger crowd are saying about guitar music. The point is, who cares why people are picking up a guitar. Enjoy the fact that they're doing so at all.

Looks and sounds pretty great. I really wish they went with the vintage logo on the headstock though like on MGK's original. That cheap looking "Schecter Diamond Series" logo is just insulting next to a $1000 price tag. I get that's just aesthetics, and specs IMO are great here, but still...if it's a signature artist series, they should've gotten that right. And I know MGK has several PTs and some have this headstock logo, but I'd be willing to bet those were to promote this eventual release. I also have no qualms with this being an import guitar, but I expect the price to reflect that. Correct the headstock logo and charge $650, and then I think Schecter would've had a winner on their hands. I think the new Billie Joe Armstrong signature from Epiphone is a better buy for pop punk fans. This Schecter may arguably be better, but Epiphone really only cut a couple of corners with Armstrong's and met a much more reasonable price point for us poor pop punk fans.

I was actually getting started with " of course its a freaking simple guitar, its MGKs Guitar!" and so on, but you got me with fact, that guys like him or like Tiny Taylor make the young pick up the guitar like for me it was kirk hammett back in the day or EVH or Jimi for other people before... OF COURSE there is no comparison in skill set guitarwise between EVH , Jimi and the modern "Idols" I mentioned, but who knows if not one of the kids who got inspired by MGK / Swift might chose the right path at the end and starts to produce proper music🙂 for me personally, no one takes "my music" from me, so every new guitar player is welcome to the family👍🏻

Hey Schecter I'm a schecter player let's make a signature guitar it's going to be a Drop C monster with an evertune and crazy wiring for maximum tonal options. 🤷Meh worth a shot.

With the right gauge strings & set up, do you think this guitar would handle drop C tuning well? Thanks for the video!

Yeah you could easily throw some 12-62 on there for Drop C and it'd rip

*And it's worth at best, $150 lol.* I have in the dozens of guitars, play at the elite level, a formal education in science and electrical/electronics engineering, decades of experience in carpentry, metal fabrication and well beyond. *These brands sabotaged themselves a long time ago and most of their junk sells to wealthy people and beginners with money to burn.* I have guitars ranging from $65 to $1000 and with a few hours of work, a new bridge and an active circuit I designed and build myself, a $65 basswood junker moves up to about $80 in total cost, a few hundred dollars of labor and meets or exceeds my thousand dollar instruments, all of which go through extensive mods as well. The days of quality to cost ratio being reasonable from the major brands came to an end about 20 years ago. I'll get a bazillion arguments from people with 1/100 my experience, education, knowledge and playing skill which are laughed off with my own flavor of ridicule.

While thats a lot of pink I think as a template for signatures, stickers or any type of art added to it would really stand out. Feels like a lead singers guitar and the kill switch makes sense. Having a black neck is ideal and in a tele style is a nice blend. Overall good tone but probably a bit out of reach for starting guitarists. Steve vai and mgk have different fan bases in terms of age and means and the guitar should attempt to reflect that. 1k is too much and I dont think a similar Green Day model would command as much in my day. Lastly wouldnt neck through be much better for music like this where sustain seems to be a key factor?

The tones within the mix were to die for!! I enjoy the appearance and tones of this guitar but due to the signature aspect I wouldn’t buy one over the purple Schecter PT with roasted maple neck

Opinion on MGK aside, I like the guitar, however I’m not sure about the black stripes. Those aren’t for me but I love single pickup guitars, I blame blink and my delonge strat for that…

Just an FYI, having your name involved with a specific brand doesn't not make it a signature model. Actual effort goes into creating a guitar that matches specifications unique to the artist. Simply painting telecaster pink does not make it unique.

The pepto pink is not my jam (and I do like pink guitars), but this is pretty cool. Regardless of what you think of MGK, given how striking his guitar is and how high-profile he is I think making a signature for him is an obvious move.
