I really don't understand Bethesda's decision on allowing tattered rags to have weave but not the vault suit?!?! God forbid they encourage players to wear their signature look!
@maledwarfwarrior
7 жыл бұрын
The vault suit has innate energy resistance, rad resistance, lining, and other mods the rags don't. I don't agree with the decision, I'd make the other clothing just as good and allow them all to be weaved, but I can see why it was made. What I do have a problem with is making exactly 4 rare hats, ugly ones at that, able to be modded with 100 ballistic/energy resist. There's a reason I have a mod that opens up ballistic weave to a lot more clothing & headpieces, as well as another mod that adds alternatives that offer variants. Some sacrifice physical/energy resist for more exotic stats like poison & rad resist, others offer uneven resistance so you can specialize versus energy weapons or physical attacks. They're also not cheap, after all how many deathclaw hides do you have in your stockpile?

Power armor is a drag most of the time. Just having high endurance is all you need most of the time anyways. It also keeps you from maxing you stats into the upper teens. The only build I've done with it that seems worthwhile is a Melee Junkie build where all the withdrawals make the base strength from the power armor worthwhile. Junkie Bat does 1335/216 ballistic and energy outside the armor with a maxed out strength of 8. 1560/216 when I'm in the armor and more in the sun for both.

If I'm playing with power armor, I'm almost always going for Nuclear Physicist and getting the bobblehead from Corvega asap. You can get half a dozen power cores pretty quickly early on, and from there it snowballs. My most recent character essentially lived in their power armor, and my fusion core counter was only ever going up. Last I looked it was at 160+ before I decided to go with my base armor and give the enemies a chance. I feel like my fusion cores were each lasting an hour or so of play time.

This video reminded me of this little fact about the ancient mongols. _Genghis Khan was once said to have issued all his horsemen with silk vests, as an arrow hitting silk does not break it but ends up embedded in the flesh wrapped in silk, allowing the arrow to be removed by gently teasing the silk open, as opposed to the usual method of removing barbed arrows, cutting them out or pushing them right through an injured limb and out of the other side. These silk vests functioned much like the padded armour used by European and Byzantine soldiers of the era, such as the gambeson.[1]_ Ancient's Behaving Badly did an experiment with this using a pig carcass as a placeholder. It's an older form of ballistic armor but apparently it checks out.

Bullet proof vests are meant to save your life once. Bullet proof vests aren't invincible my dad was in the marines and he said that people who have been shot in the chest with the plate on had a purple chest the next day like a bean bag slug which makes sense because the information oxhorn gave the vest spreads the impact so you would have a bruise the size of a plate on your chest and ceramic is even worse, when you get hit you would probably rather have been actually shot, ceramic shatters in the vest and ceramic hitting your chest even if it's strapped to your body feels like you have been shot with a shotgun than a rifle. Getting hit with a vest on is not painless you will probably have broken something but hey! Your still alive right!

I also have a mod that lets me wear armor over any piece of clothing. So I usually wear the Drifter's Outfit that you get off the Drifter killed just outside Sanctuary until I get the Minuteman General Uniform. And then with Deep Pockets on everything, wearing Power Armor actually gives me much less carry capacity... But I'm a Survival mode player that doesn't like high difficulty levels, so I figure it balances out fine. There's a reason I haven't gotten all that far with my BoS character - his power armor focus actually makes him weaker than I'm used to.

I'm kinda curious what everyone's favorite clothing mods are, I, personally, have a mod that lets me add ballistic weave and linings to a number of costumes and outfits. Now, I consider this to be lore friendly, from a role playing perspective, but my mods have allowed me to add various armor modification to the Silver Shroud Armor, and, given that my characters usually ally with the Railroad at some point, I end up with my typical end game armor being the Silver Shroud armor with Mk. V Ballistic Weave, the Shielded vault suit lining, and stabilization in the arms, for steadier shooting. It weighs a ton, but it makes sense when you think of it, typically the Sole Survivor is a tinkerer, and has befriended other tinkerers, like Tinker Tom and Kent Connoly, and using their combined expertise and inspiration, made a fully functional suit of armor by cannibalizing other outfits and armor suits. It gets to be a bit clunky, but the Shroud has got to be stylish.

Hey Oxhorn, I am wondering, if you would be interested in exploring mod called Conquest. It allows you to setup settlements anywhere you want and I feel that it does not break lore much. For example, I have setup one settlement in College square, which I feel is good place for settlement due to roads intersecting through it. It allows creating of 10 new settlements in the Commonwealth, Far Harbor and Nuka World. Some of the things are sadly not scrapable so it needs extensive use of "disable" console command but otherwise its great.

A singular but perhaps rather critical factor in using ballistic weave and armor pieces over power armor? There is never any LOSS of defensive value, stat boosts, or special (legendary) effect due to damage. Which means that after the initial cost of upgrades are completed, there is never any more resource cost for the maintenance and Repair of a ballistic weave undergarment, hat and the armor pieces you have chosen to accompany them. Yes. Power armor IS, without refutation, the strongest armor in the game. Yes. Power armor allows you to carry more, not suffer fall damage, opens the doors to the use of any beneficial associated perks. But it comes with the drawbacks of the need for constant; Maintenance (fusion core requirements), and Repair(which can have considerable resource costs with higher technology power armors). In the end, it of course all.comes down to what the individual player is willing to take on in their play. For many the upkeep on power armor is worth it's benefits. For others, foregoing power armor and choosing the option of ballistic weave yields a considerable amount of resources and power cores for other endeavors. Just... my rather paltry two cents worth of commentary.

My Lvl. 69 Infiltrator just installed Ballisitic Weave, Mk. 5 into her Military Fatigues along with some Polymerized, Deep Pocketed Combat Armor pieces. I couple that with some Titanium Plating T-60 power armor. Outside of repairing the Power Armor, I haven't been taking a whole lot of damage. This has helped save me quite a lot of vitality, allowing me to amass around 300 stimpaks. My only complaint about this all is that my carry capacity is now much lower than I would prefer. I guess I may need to stow away some of my spare weapons…

Once I got ballistic weave I swapped to my lightest legendary armor pieces that gave me the same effects my heavy pieces did, to get a better carry weight. I know I could've gotten an insane amount of defense keeping the heavy pieces, but ballistic weave plus X01 MKV power armor is ridiculously tough enough. So remember, don't sell off that legendary leather armor, because armor doesn't get any lighter than that. The alternative would be continuing to wear the heavy pieces on top of the ballistic weave without using power armor for added speed and stealth. Unfortunately, I haven't found any legendary hats capable of being weaved, so the Destroyer's Helmet remains part of my gear. The only negative for the weave was by the time I got it, I didn't really need it, and I mostly used it to improve my companion's and settler's apparel, especially for the provisioners

For non-power armor, choose one of the underwears and hats - they make a world of difference. Particularly since most non-PA builds are built to specifically take advantage of some legendary modifiers (meaning you are likely choosing sub par DR/ER to have a particular effect). For a PA build, it is still great since you have to leave your suit from time to time (usually for crafting) and it is nice to not be totally vulnerable or naked underneath and yet you don't want the wasted weight of actual armor. A lab coat with the weave is a great choice as the IN bonus out of the armor (with hats/goggles to improve IN as well) makes your building and crafting time more useful in farming XP.

Early in the game, for some tough opponents (in my case, I found Assaultrons with stealth really tough) I'd turn to power armour, but by later in the game, ballistic weave on underclothes and a hat, with armour layered over the top seemed plenty good. Once I found 3 or 4 pieces of armour with the Sentinel legendary trait, I can't imagine needing power armour ever, except to wander about the glowing sea or other really high radiation areas. Stacking those Sentinel bonuses (even on weakish armour pieces) seems pretty amazing to me. And, they never need to be repaired, unlike power armour.

Someone actually presented a lore reason for why that might be. Railroad agents are meant to be masters of stealth, so a lumbering steel man or person running around in odd armor are not going to be considered vaible for the various agents of the Railroad because, well... wearing power armor is about as unstealthy as it gets. James Bond wore a tux instead of full combat armor after all. To put it simply, Tinker Tom modified ballistic weave for the purposes of the railroad, not the BoS or uncommon armor restrictions.

power armor or weave, it mainly depends on my whim of play style (stealth, cover fighting or tanking damage in PA) at the time. my current character playthrough is lvl161 and i have mods that allow me to scale the damage multiplayer and keep them all npcs around my level to maintain HC level of survival for both sides (no need to waste an multiple mags to down one person). also i run a mod that allows all clothing (not armor pieces) to be modded with weave but i never use anything above mk 2 because the reduction kinda defeats the purpose of of the former beyond that, but give me enough to take cover and heal.

I use the Auto Loom from the Contraptions DLC and Mk. 5 ballistic weave to give all of my settlers fashionable armor in all my settlements. that, combined with upgraded weapons puts my mind at ease when I see the "[settlement a] is under attack" prompt.

The mod Armorsmith Extended is quite common and allows for maximum flexibility, letting you wear pretty much any under armor/armor suit with any of the armor pieces, and allows you to Ballistic Weave all the clothes in the game, not just the base ones. Most people who do modded games probably already know this, as it is one of the most popular mods. And it can get a bit cheaty, but it does allow for the most flexibility when designing your character's look. I personally don't use a lot of power armor in my games. I'm not generally fond of the aesthetic of stomping around in big clunky robot suits and prefer a sneakier approach. I do have my Brotherhood and Institute scientist characters who rely on their power armor, but most of the others I stick with regular armor. My Railroad gunslinger uses Elianora's Gunslinger clothes weaved. My Minuteman general uses weaves fatigues and marine combat armor.

I guess it comes to personal preerence on how to use the ability to weave almost everything. It is free to do, but not mandatory. In the end I happily sacrifice some of my resistence to hold a certain look.

I hardly ever use power armor, usually use it only when I go hunting in the glowing sea or during certain story quests. I like to use woven military fatigues and green rag hat with fully upgraded heavy combat armor for max protection. I find it gets me through most fights even if I go in guns blazing.

The reason why you got hurt that one time when you jumped is because the bumper on those cars does over 100 damage to you if you hit. Its a weird bug I heard about from Hi vis harry called the most dangerous thing in fallout 4.

Kevlar bullet proof vests *have* to have the ceramic plate. Spitzer bullets (and knives) can part the fibres otherwise and render it useless and the blunt trauma can still cause enough internal bleeding to be lethal. Basically don't get shot

Maybe the fiberglass you use in the work bench for ballistic weave is an inner lining between the layers to protect from ballistic and energy damage because it doesn't melt like the fabric... maybe?

Fun fact we may see ceramic plates being replaced with metal foam in the near future. If you don't know what metal foam is metal foam is metal/metalloid typically titanium, steel, or aluminum which has air bubbles pumped into it. While, that may seem counter productive what this does is it makes the metal porous making it highly resistant to heat, far better at distributing force, and much lighter making it ideal for things like tank or body armor. Scientist have actually made metal foam based on steel which was 200% stronger than ordinary steel while weighing half as much.

Thing with resistances though is that when you go much higher than the damage of each enemy attack you get less and less benefit from it. If you already have an armor rating that is double the damage of the enemy attack you get almost nothing for doubling it again. This means that you don't lose as much as you may think from ditching the power armor.
@edmartin875

Since you don't know the amount of Damage each and every enemy you may encounter will wield, it behooves you to go for the max resistance you can mount. As the saying goes: "It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it." This is very applicable when your life is at stake.

@@edmartin875 I forget the context of this 6 year old post, but the problem with your reasoning is that you forget to count the alternative. What you should do is analyze the cost/benefit ratio. When the benefit is sufficiently small it is no longer worth it.

My purrsonal favorite use of ballistic weave was in my papurboy character. I had it in the postman uniform and papurboy hat. I used the junk jet to deliver boston bugles to my neighborhood at dangerous velocities. I had to, though. The news was too shocking to ignore.

Once I realized how hard modders make their fights in Fallout 4 (such as Thuggyverse), I gave myself mods which allow my resistances between power armor, clothing, and normal armor to stack. The Jetpack mod has since changed, seemingly, to require a Cyber Chestpiece. At least that’s what my load order required of me. Besides that I have Minuteman General’s Uniform ballistic woven with Minuteman Combat Armor pieces and the Minuteman Hat, Aviators, and a cigar or Minuteman Bandana. Over this goes a full suit of Minuteman X-01 Power Armor (again with a Jetpack) that if stealth is absolutely necessary I can send back to a settlement using a companion I’m sure can’t stealth to save his or her life.

Ahhh memories. Your post brings to mind the 2 firearms with which my teenage father helped feed his family of 10 during the Great Depression in the 1930s. A .22 cal single shot bolt action rifle used for small game and slaughtering hogs, and a 12-gauge bolt action full choke long barreled shotgun with 4 round mag, he called his goose gun. Besides working on the farm, he guided and bird-dogged for hunters from Tulsa who usually paid him with a handfull of ammo.

Power armor? Cool looking apparel with ballistic weave? Creation Kit! Made a mod which allows me to put ballistic weave on the Minuteman general outfit and on the Minuteman hat, and changed the outfit to "underwear" status to add standard armor to the mix. Looks kinda crooket on the shoulders in certain situations, but hey: the general outfit actually HAS a combat armor chest piece integrated into it by default, so why not upgrade it this way anyway?
