Question: can I use a smile bridge on a banjo with a radius fingerboard, I have a Silver Clipper. Thanks for any information.

bart veerman was the man who designed the radius for the legs of a banjo bridge. we exchanged emails and he told me about it and deering took advantage of that and stamped a patent pending to prevent any bridge makers from borrowing that design. Bart never got paid for his original design. the idea of the radius is not a martketing hype. i have one on my bishline and it helps stay in tune and relieves tension.

Thanks Richard. I don't know that this is quite accurate. It is definitely true that we patented our Smile bridge design. It is not true that we did so by taking advantage of Bart or any other product at all. The nature of any conversations on that matter are certainly not for public consumption, but we are definitely not the big bad ogre banjo company. We just wanted to make a good product and no-one had ever patented it. So thats what we did. Hope this clarifies some things.

Hi Ted, when you look at the side profile of the banjo the bridge should appear to be leaning back towards the tailpiece.

2 newbie questions. does the logo go towards tailpiece or toward nut ( i cant tell in the video?) like on some Deering bridges there is no logo but the left and right sides are different (one rounded one pointy) does the pointy side go towards 5th string or towards 1st string, Next question is: weather it is good or bad to put a 1/2 of a drop of lemon oil/ mineral oil in the bridge grooves so the strings slide over the bridge when tuning. Or do you want the bridge grooves bone dry so that it kinda sticks to the bridge slot causing more vibration to transfer ? Thank you for any guidance. I know people say use pencil lead but no one has ever answered about oils of any kind or about the science of a dry bridge vs. one where the strings slide better for tuning, I ask because mine was creaking when i tuned it and figured it might be messing it up if i left it that way. (so basically How do i know i have the bridge facing the right way, and science of dry bridge vs one where strings slide better when tuning 😉) oh ya and is string lube in bridge slot ok?😊
