Look man, great job on the story as always but I’ve gotta say... I know you didn’t write it so I’m not blaming you, but that “story” at the beginning was the most ahistorical, cliched BS story about Skraelings (“Natives”) imaginable. 😂 It was really, REALLY bad.

“They believed and accepted everything.” Damn, just imagine a place where everything urban legend or myth is taken seriously. And I’m not joking, take a moment to overthink a bit, and just picture how crazy that would be. One minute your parents are putting up dream catchers for sleeping, the next day it’s preparations for a wendigo sighting, then they also balance hiding their livestock so the chupacabra doesn’t eat them.

Odd thing but a nicer touch would be if the last of the tribe became integrated into after the chief died hence giving an immunity to the decendents of the past locals and main character transferred to the town when he was younger and it didn't bother his friends because they are locals where as technically he wouldn't be and it becomes this psychological monster that only attacks foreigners who enter the forest and the locals just think they're all crazy
