A multi-actor reading of The Sea of Adventure by Enid Blyton dramatised by Edward Kelsey.
Philip, Dinah, Jack and Lucy-Ann, join their family 'friend' Bill on mysterious trip to the desolate northern Isles. But there are surprises in store when Bill disappears and the children are left marooned, far from the mainland. And a thrilling adventure ensues when they discover Bill has been kidnapped and they must do what they can to rescue him.
I had this tape as a child and loved this telling of the story. It is abridged with a 50 minute running time, but maintains the tension and excitement without over-simplifying. Making it ideal for bed time or car journeys and my kids prefer these versions also. Recorded with a multi-voice cast by Rainbow books (and later released by Tempo). Blyton's book of this story was originally published in 1948.
This is shared from a recording of a cassette tape, so lots of old-fashioned tape noises and hiss, but still very listenable and an enjoyable telling for childhood nostalgia or for a new generation of listeners that can make pictures in the mind.
