If there is one thing I hate, it’s when key plot points are wrapped up or explained in a tie in book series. It was annoying when Dragon Prince did it. It’s annoying when Legend of Korra does it. And it’s annoying when The Last Airbender does it. But none are quite so bad as ATLA. Specifically the fate of Zuko’s mom, Ursa. Throughout the course of the show, we get little scraps of information regarding Zuko’s homelife, culminating in the big reveal of how Zuko’s mom left the family the day his grandfather died, and his father assumed the throne as the brand new Firelord. Her ultimate fate was left ambiguous, and felt like premium sequel bait. Thus, when it was botched in a three part graphic novel. Well, let’s just say I was less than impressed. Join me as I have a sook about this for ten minutes. Enjoy.
