The one and only Tony Jackson, as lead singer. He had a great voice, indeed one of the best lead singers of the 60’s. Chris Curtis the drummer, froze him out of the group which was a serious mistake. Jackson had the last laugh as Curtis himself was forced to leave a couple of years later!

My older brother played in a group called "The Classics," forerunner to "The Classics IV" of "Spooky" fame. In 1960 and following, they played in teen clubs wearing dinner jackets and cumber buns. The first group I saw that was not dressed as a band, was, "The Candymen" after they had just toured with The Beatles and left Orbison. They walked in the place and stepped up onto the stage in street clothes. Looked very odd to me at the time ...

Sandy Sandy, thanks for the comments. Unfortunately, lots of bands had multiple incarnations after break-ups and were rarely as good as the original, with maybe Eric Burdon's New Animals and some others being the exception. As for finding comments on youtube, it's really poorly indexed. I can't even find my OWN comments, and I've not found any mechanism for generating a list of all the comments I've made over the years. Should be a simple matter of hitting a command, but just doesn't seem do-able.

Sandy Sandy: My pleasure to help enlighten in whatever small way I have. No, not a Scouser, a Yank! A bit of an Anglophile, and in many ways wish I'd been born in Britain, and decades before I was born, but, alas, fate did not have it so. Imagine being in one of those clubs and seeing The Beatles, The Searchers or The Big Three live??!!! Loved the British Invasion and still it's my favourite music. Played drums in a garage band in my youth, focusing on all the Merseybeat stuff. Still can't get enough. By the way, for the uninitiated, here's a link on the meaning of Scouser: www.theguardian.com/notesandqueries/query/0,5753,-6353,00.html Curious how the term stuck to Liverpudlians and not to folk from other British seaports.
