9 wins in a row is ludicrous, but for me the greatest season ever driven was schumi's 2002 campaign. he was on the podium for qualifying AND race for 18 out of 18 races that season (essentially 36 "podiums"). and if you look closer, he was on the 3rd step only once out of those 36 times. every other result was first or second. converting his points to the current 25-28-25 format would put his total for the season at 387, 159 points clear of his teammate Rubens, and 210 points clear of 3rd place Montoya.

I remember yawning at the time, feeling that those races were snoozefests, when Vettel was on that run of 9 wins on the bounce. It's only with time that I have grown to respect it (from an engineering perspective anyway). Having a car that suited his rear heavy driving style down to a T produced amazing levels of dominance, it's always amazing to see what drivers can do when the car is OP. He wasn't perfect in 2013, mind you, he did his image no favours when he put himself above the team in Malaysia that year (although that in itself isn't what bothered me), then he subsequently apologised only to publicly do a complete about face, saying words to the effect of "I'll do it again." I didn't and have never condoned booing of sporting pros, and the hate he got (just like Hamilton does today) was over the top and unnecessary. When you have driven your heart out, got the most out of the car and best of all taken the chequered flag first, the last thing you expect to receive is boos from the crowd. Much like Hamilton today, it's not his problem that the opposition came up short

In 2007 it was only the drivers, Alonso in Fuji and Hamilton in China, that resulted in retirements with driving errors. Kimi righfully won the 2007 championship with a worse car, and Massa would have won the 2008 if he'd have as fast and super reliable car as McLaren. And now Max Verstappen has broken Vettel's record of 10 races in a row.
@Ricky911_

I remember I first started watching F1 in 2013. I was 8 at the time and had casually watched it in the past but that year I genuinely became interested. I remember randomly watching one of the races on the TV and asking my dad, "Who's leading?" He said, "Sebastian Vettel. He's the world champion and drives for Red Bull". I didn't know much at the time so I instantly became a Vettel fan. I think it was just destiny in the end as I knew nothing about him yet he's still my favourite driver up to this day. I can't remember which race that was however. The earliest memory I have was seeing Nico Rosberg's front wing failing a few races later. I looked it up a few months and found out it was at the Korean GP. I also remember being impressed that he was winning literally every race I watched. It made me question whether I had missed something or not. The truth is I had no clue I was watching him break a world record. I may be wrong but I think I have a faint memory of him becoming world champion at India and him doing those donuts. Anyway, I had become a massive fan. The interesting thing is this was a year before I moved to England. So, despite being Italian, I didn't support Ferrari at all. Fernando was still my second favourite driver but I never wished he won. I always wanted Seb and Red Bull to win, which is what I got. The next season was a horrible experience for me as a kid however. I still remember seeing Daniel getting a P2 in Australia. I also remember hearing about his disqualification on the radio later on in the evening. At first, I didn't think much of the first race. But as the season progressed, I started to have less motivation. It hurt me to see Seb wasn't at the front anymore. Most of the times, he was around 5th, sometimes not even in the top 10. It hurt me so bad that I completely lost interest in F1. Later that year, I moved to the UK. Of course, you can imagine how happy everyone was to see Lewis win. I remember we had a school assembly once where they played a video and talked about the new world champion, Lewis Hamilton, though I wasn't particularly happy as I wanted to see Seb win. Of course, the British fans were happy about his championship. I remember I tried to feel something for him but I just couldn't, I wanted Seb to win so I just didn't see a point in watching F1, especially considering Seb had just moved to Ferrari even though I wanted him to stay at Red Bull. Last year, 7 years later, a video from Vox about the Monaco Grand Prix got in my recommended. I watched it and started having interest in F1 again. It was a bit of a shock to see everything having changed so much. It was also a bit of a shock to me when I found out everyone hated Seb during his dominance as I obviously didn't have social media when I was a child so I couldn't have known at the time. I only found out last year. I supported Max in the championship but only because I wanted a bit of change and Red Bull to win. But, of course, it was quite painful to see Seb at Aston Martin. There have only been 3 races this season but I'm just scared to watch the Imola GP this weekend because I fear Seb isn't gonna perform well again. Last year, I had high hopes and even dreamed a 5th world championship. Instead, he got Covid-19 and a horrendous car. Ironically, between Max and Charles, I support Charles but that's only because I like him more and don't feel like wanting another period of domination by Max quite frankly. Seeing Seb winning a 5th world championship is the 2nd best thing that could ever happen to me Sorry about the long comment. I know barely anyone is gonna read it but I just wanted to take a trip down memory lane once again

As an Indian F1 fan, it really pains me to see a nice track like BIC with such iconic memories, not on F1 calender and probably will not be in near future. Politics hurt it very bad. PS: Even if you are a Seb hater, you're a Seb fan. Everybody is a Seb fan.

IF (yes I know...) that 2017 season had been his, which for what he drove he deserved, he would've been cemented as a top 5 best driver of all time for sure. The fact he only lost it because of reliability issues and incidents with no driver errors of his fault while his rival for the title had 0 DNFs and very little issues in qualifying sessions or mid-race just proves that he was the top of the crop still up till that year. The 2014 season was a clear anomaly year, not to mention the talks of his underperfoming clause to be released by Red Bull to go to Ferrari. In 2015 in a new team and after a year of adapting to the new hybrid era chassis and engine cars, he got back to being on the pace up until midway through 2018... Where inexplicably, he just started doing mistakes every 5 races. Like, what happened?

Vettel was a victim of propaganda. The Ferrari & Alonso fan base worked very hard to underrate him to try to make Alonso look good. But Alonso never recover. The Aussie fan base of Webber and Ricciardo attacked him as well, the Hamilton/McLaren/Mercedes fan base as well, the Kimi fan base, the Dutch fan base of Verstappen also. But his results are within the best in history. No one won in a similar car as the Toro Rosso, Vettel made the Red Bull team and gave the pride and hope back to Ferrari. When he signed with Ferrari by the end of 2013 he earned the Red Bull hate and they ruined his 2014 season creating the Ricciardo myth. Then in 2015 when he started with Ferrari found all his old enemies Arrivabene, Binotto and Kimi that hated him due to 5 years of humilliation from 2009 to 2013. Kimi was there not to win but to avoid him to become champion. Then he had to fight Leclerc and his agent Nicolás Todt that used his power to make him look bad starting from Canada 2019. His 2 2nd place podiums in Aston are very significant.

Hate when people mention the Fernando quote. Look at what he did in Ferrari 2015, 2017, 2018 (first half), 2019 (second half) 2017 if u look closely (which Cranky Yankee f1 has done for you), Vettel really should have had the title in a car that was probably 2nd best, and against the (now) most succesful driver in history that beat Fernando as a rookie. And also whilst that driver was at Merc (a team near perfection) during their dominant era 2018 again he lead the majority of the wdc against Ham and merc (but honestly Vettel is more at fault this time. Although Ferrari definitely helped him lose) In 2019, after the singapore update he consistently outperformed leclerc and should/could have beaten lec if he'd kept the russian gp (and there was also USA retirement) ... of course lec had the bahrain lost win. But he still finished (3rd) - unlike Vet in russia (-25 points, he was behind lec by 24) Yes Vettel is weak in adapting to any car. But hes definitely a worthy 4x wdc (argueably should be 5x). Only when he leaves will people see what he truly was in this sport.

The hate Sebastian used to get really baffled me, as a Ferrari fan I obviously wanted Fernando to be the one winning the titles. Despite that I still appreciated Seb for what he was achieving, and feel privileged to have witnessed an absolute f1 legend at his peak rewriting the history books. I guess the Vettel hate was all down to typical human nature. I remember the hate Schumacher used to get from people (not as much hate as Vettel) for dominating f1. It wasn't until it was over that people started to realise instead of hating they should have been enjoying these legends while we had them.
