This was my most in-depth and time consuming project to date, and when you have your nose pressed up against something like this for so long it’s really hard to take a step back and evaluate whether it’s any good or not. I’d love to hear what you thought! If it goes down a storm I could always consider doing a video on Ni No Kuni II when that launches or even talk about that long list of anime games I love. That said, this channel will always be first and foremost about classic anime, and I’ve got plenty of traditional videos lined up for the future. So if anyone’s outraged that I sullied this channel with videogame trash, don’t worry! We’ll be back to normal soon.

Rarely do I devote as much time into a video game as I did into this one. I think I was up to about 130 hours upon finally putting the game down. It was an absolute pleasure to play. The look was stunning, I'm pretty sure the story made me cry at one point, and the game play was very engaging (something I find scarce in JRPG's). The soundtrack transports me to it's world and surrounds me with such complex and powerful emotions every time I hear it. I gave it to a friend of mine who soon after texted me that he forgot to get off the elevator because he was so lost in the soundtrack. As a classically trained musician I am deeply touched by this soundtrack. As a huge fan of these kinds of games, Ghibli, and the child's perspective, I always think of it fondly. I hold this game in a very special place in my heart.

This game is amazing. I had a journey full of emotion in this world. I remember well those days back with the PS3... The soundtrack, the world, the themes. I think your point that not all great anime comes from just movies or TV is extremely important. I’ve haven’t seen anybody else on KZitem discuss this. If you want to make a video following up on this point, I think anime music videos would be a really interesting topic to cover. Your video essays have been a great balance of your narration and the themes and thesis. This one have been illuminating as I have never heard of this project before, let alone a big studio, Ghibli, who was heavily involved in it. Illumination is what I came back for your essays, as I know you will show more new stuff, aptly named 'beyond Ghibli'. I'm not much of a gamer but this game seems incredible! Overall, the only part where I feel there's room for improvement is the background sound and music in your videos sounded loud, which sunk your voice and narration. Otherwise, always excited for your vids, and have a great trip to Japan! Thank you!

i own the CE, it is a prized piece in my video game collection. that book is absolutely amazing. funny thing, i was homeless when the game was released and we could barely afford it, but i absolutely had to have it. i was worried about getting it once had become homeless, and the credit card issue that canceled a great many of the preorders had me on edge, but eventually i did get it into my hands, and it was a dream come true. i had always wanted an JRPG set in a Ghibli style world, especially since i was brought into the video games and anime thanks to FFVII and Miyazaki films. so it was a long time dream of mine to see the two come together. so when it finally did, i had to get the CE at all costs, and i did in fact obtain it, hell i even own the CE for the sequel. i hope we see a third game, maybe with some help from Studio Ponoc.

Found your channel yesterday and just finished watching through the catalogue of your work thus far. I just want to say that I am thoroughly impressed with your work. The one thing that I would like to praise specifically is your cutting, which I think is outstanding. The Ghost in the Shell video especially stands out in this regard, as the excellent cutting really illustrated that the different installments of the franchise do not come together to form a cohesive storyline but rather represent different angles/flavors of a common overarching theme. In this video your cutting is also fantastic in the way it brings together footage from cutscenes, gameplay and behind the stage material to form the final product. Brilliant!

Something most people overlook is that the kids in this game speak like kids and the adults speak like adults, you would hear the adult guy in your team (forgot his name) say stuff like "What the hell" or "Damn" (they couldn't go all out cause it is a kid's game) while Oliver would say stuff a kid would say like "jeepers creepers" or "neato". I'm so glad that they didn't make the adults say some cheesy Disney shit like most other kid's game do.

I have such fond memories of Ni No Kuni, actually playing the 2nd one now and the world is still as magic as ever.

Having only watched the intro yet, I would add that another big reason why games embraced the anime look was in my mind probably because the limited animation used in TV and the philosophies of motion was perfect for the hardware they had to work with. Limited bandwidth, storage and processing power invites workarounds and solutions that the anime industry was already perfecting. Of course, they were selling their products to the same consumers so it was only natural game designers would gravitate towards esthetics already proven to work, so I won't deny that factor either. Now I'll continue to watch the video just to realise my coment was redundant. :P

One thing that I loved about Ni No Kuni is that they have an actual villain that doesn't underestimate or belittle humans.

She didn't underestimate or belittle humans, she outright stated that they can be disturbingly powerful. The issues came from the Dark Djinn and one of the Zodiac guys who didn't want Oliver to die, or weren't serious, due to reasons of their own.

She really didn't. What was the first thing she did? Release that forbidden spell which should have gotten Oliver if he wasn't saved. Also that Zodiac and her good self were running interference, Also Oliver wouldn't normally have gotten access to her castle in the first place. She didn't underestimate Oliver in the slightest.

You really think that she had any intention of letting him leave? Even if she didn't interrupt that farewell, he would have returned, and she knew this. So she struck at the most opportune time. When she faced Oliver, there was no one else that could do the job, and she did not hold anything back. Heck she did the illusions beforehand and Oliver wasn't fooled at that point. She certainly did not underestimate him.

You forget about her good self that was guiding him. She would cause him to return.

This game was my primary motivation for buying a PS3, and it was worth the wait. I can't wait for the sequel to come out.

As I was watching this video I checked if any of the games were available on PS4 and thank god there’s news literally leaked yesterday: they’re remastering them all! And it’s coming to PC, too!

Now it's on the Nintendo Switch and it's pretty damn good. I think the sequel isn't due out on the Switch till either later this year, 2020, or next year, 2021.

Wow. I'm no kind of gamer. I find most videos about games boring at best, but I really, really want to play this game.
