Chess in Russian is 'Shakhmaty' which is the distorted version of 'Sheikh Mate' aka 'Check mate' in modern days. In Arabic 'Sheikh' means the ruler and 'Mate' means defeated or helpless or even dead. The evolution of the terminology is mind blowing how Arabic 'Sheikh Mate' became universal 'Check mate' to Russian Shakhmaty! As usual awesome videos. Good luck from Assam

As someone who has done e the Trans Siberian in both directions 1) You should have taken it all the way to Vladivostok with stops in Kazan ( it’s a bit off the TS line but you can do Moscow-Kazan-Yekaterinburg), Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan Ude and Vladivostok. 2) Platzkartny is not the best class to ride and it is rough . The good compromise is Kupe and if you want the best, then SpalnyVagon is the best. 3) Rossiya (Train #2) is the best train on the route but the 100 is not bad as it is a Skory Class train It is the longest train route for all practical reasons and the other supposed longer one from Moscow to Pyongyang doesn’t even run regularly and difficult for most people to get on without a guided tour to N.Korea.
