One more little tip. On the bottom right there is a button that allows you to change the meter scale (I think the default is 36 db), but you can switch to 9 db and monitor the compression level more closely.

This is similar to Sara Carter’s method. Definitely the way that finally worked for me. Thanks!

Yeah Stav's book is great. Funny .. when the intro was rolling I'm thinking .. "I'll bet this technique doesn't work as well as Stav's approach" .. and lo and behold :)

As good as any overview on compression anywhere ... but I have to admit ... it is so important, and yet I continue to be weak on using compression correctly ... even still to me, it continues to be frustrating and a bit illusive ... than you for sharing such important information ... you're the best!!

The way you present this video in regards to compression makes me breathe easy and feel like everything is going to be okay. Thank you for this!!! I don't know why but this video is very soothing and comforting. I've been struggling with being overwhelmed and paralyzed with the vast options and technicality of these plugins, but this is helping me to understand that my musical journey isn't all that much different from anyone else; and I %100 can and will get this!!!!! I just have to be patient, keep an open mind, discard the idea of perfection and be willing to get out of my comfort zone to allow growth.

the worst thing you can do with mixing is expect Rome to be built in a day. It’s takes years. I was there before. The frustration, the self doubt. If you’re just starting I highly highly recommend you don’t buy third party plugins. Every modern daw has every tool to make a professional sounding record. Don’t buy into the I need this, they said that, I cant do this or that without that. Learn the fundamentals. Keep. It. Simple. You may ask why I’m here, well, KZitem put it in my algorithm on auto and this dudes studio space looks cozy af so I stayed haha. Just take a deep breathe, your paralysis is purely based in delusion and nothing else. This is an art form, that takes years of doing and adding to the proverbial tool belt. Expect shit for quite sometime but the mixing gods will throw you a bone here and there. I’ve been mixing for 20 years and I’m still learning. Take care homie.

great video Jon. Compression was really something that took many years to fully understand how to use properly, and when to use the different types etc.

I cut a section of the video where I applied this methodology to an 1176 or LA2A as it was too long. Perhaps another video?
