Well, my ‘17 Sportage with the 2.4l grenaded at 130k km with routine maintenance performed so maybe we aren’t quite there yet…

Naturally there are exceptions to the theory, but considering how common the 200,000 mile car is now compared to 50 years ago when that was virtually unheard of, I'd say generally, reliability is up

@@HighMileageReviews I concur. Love your channel. There’s plenty of high mileage cars out there, especially the disposable econo cars that have no business making it past 12 years. Please keep up the great videos.

I'm proud to give you the 1st thumbs 👎 That is complete bullshit" cars are NOT more reliable now than in the past. I speak from a Mechanics experience. Back in the old school days..engines were built in the USA..the sheet metal gauge,on the body was thick and strong.Paint lasted a life time (Laquer Based).Engines were more simple and lasted well over 150k. Modern cars have so much electric gadgets that go bad quickly. Also under your hood..you have parts from all over the world. The sheet metal..feels like cardboard, Fucken weak.. people are lucky if they get 80k without any serious and expensive problems.

The fact that manufacturers only made enough slots in the odometer to read XX,000 miles tells you how bad they really thought these cars were. Meanwhile there's 50 year old cars out there with over 200k miles on them and they've only received basic maintenance for all 50 years. Plus, look at my Alfetta; been sitting untouched for a little over 40 years, some new fuel line and a couple belts later the car runs like new! Great video. Sill waiting for that R5 to come along 😉

You're right about the odometers haha they didn't have much confidence in the longevity of their designs. And if car show season ever starts, I'd love to get a hold of that Renault...and that's a big if lol

What about Korea?! And the Kia!? Ridiculous.

Korean manufacturers have only just recently begun making a name for themselves as reliable, well built vehicles, and as whole, they haven't been exporting cars very long, only a few decades. However, Korean manufacturers are included in the J.D. Power study, and in 2020, Genesis (Hyundai's luxury brand), took first place with only 89 problems per 100 vehicles, beating Lexus.
