I never had any kind of pets beside dogs all my life, but since the day I found out the existence of gerbils I've been enchanted for them. Thank you for making this and more videos about it :)

Gerbils are so cute. And mine don't smell at all. A color guide would be cool as well. It's nice to know how they live in wild, so I can replicate the burrow system in their cage

I agree, they're adorable 🥰 That's what I try to do as well, the more we can replicate the good stuff about being wild, the happier our tiny friends will be ☺️ I'll look into a coat colour guide, I may have to enlist the help of some gerbil breeders for that one though, so I'll see what I can do 🙂

I've since learned that the multiple short sleeps is called "polyphasic sleep" for anyone who's interested 🙂 I've also learned that gerbils may vary their above ground activity according to temperature, for more on that, check out this video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/x2au36xrboiYq6Q For more gerbil information, make sure you check out my Gerbil Care Playlist: 🎬 kzitem.info/door/PLrATD4l9M5doHJz2yqhJTY4IGMaYtW4bK ☺️ For bonus content, check out the blooper reel for this video: 🎬 kzitem.info/news/bejne/xIuHl6CEgKeGY6w

I enjoyed learning about gerbils’ natural habitat. It provides insight on how to best create a comfortable space for them as pets. I recently acquired two gerbils from my daughter because she couldn’t keep them in her current home. I’m enjoying learning about them and how to take care of them. I have a Cute gerbalarium but would like to expand their territory to include a 40 gallon tank I have here. Would PVC pipe be a good option to build a tunnel between them?

I don't think joining enclosures with a tunnel is a good idea, some people have reported fights breaking out over setups like that, kind of like having a single entrance in a hide, one gerbil can decide to stop the other from accessing it which could lead to fights, plus it'd be a nightmare to clean! I think you'd be better off just adding a topper to the 40 gallon, I've got a video showing how to make a wood adapter platform that may help: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kpptn32un6lijYY

@@PetConnectionInternational thanks! I saw your video and I’m looking for a suitable topper now. I was hoping to use both places to provide the girls with lots of extra room. A connecting tube is out but I might try to create a larger connector which could be another play space. I appreciate the knowledge you provide. I’m so glad I found your channel!

@@myrasnyder7792 no problem ☺️ you could always use the small enclosure for housing them when you're cleaning out their main one? Always useful to have a spare enclosure anyway just in case someone gets hurt and needs treatment, just in case they declan, for cleaning, or for taking to the vets 🙂

I have 9 pet gerbils in 5 different cages. 3 are alone and I'm trying to make them friends so they won't be alone. I'm glad you say they aren't nocturnal. None of my gerbils are nocturnal. They take short naps and are up and down all day and night. I get mad at websites and pet stores that say they are nocturnal. I am confused as to why they have such strong urges to chew on things and are so good at it too. What's there to chew for them in the wild? The gerbils I have also seem very, very bad at foraging. They accidentally bury their food all the time and then they don't seem to recover their food if they do. I see them hungrily rush towards their food like they are starving when I go un bury their food for them.

Awh good luck with your bondings, I assume you'll be getting another solo for the third gerbil to bond with? As split tanks can generally only be done 1-1 Gerbils have such strong motivations to chew partially because they spend so much time burrowing and nest building, so they use the shredded pieces to help with that. In the wild they'd likely chew on things like wood, leaves, sticks and plant roots Gerbils will tend to end up burying their food, they indiscriminately kick bedding everywhere, so it will happen. But having food partially buried isn't such a bad thing as it's been shown in some studies that animals are more inclined to forage when food is slightly covered Vs just sitting on top of the bedding. As long as your gerbs are maintaining a healthy weight and body size (no ribs sticking out or protruding tummys when standing up straight) then they're finding enough food 🙂

I want to make a TikTok with my gerbils exporing a small replica of their natural habitat, and nibbling plants they would eat in the wild. I can't seem to find what species they would eat, other than some sites that said mugwort, saltwort, bristlegrass and lyme grass. I don't know where to get any of those, and I'm worried I might get a plants relitive that might not be safe. Any ideas?

Maybe you could make it just look similar with stuff like dried dandelion roots and leaves, mealworms and crickets, and put any replica plants in the background protected from gerbil consumption with a plastic wrap or something?
