Rob, I'm a self confessed slow learner, and it's taken me months and months to unlearn years of doing things incorrectly. I'm still very much work in progress, but I wanted to let you know your videos are fir the first time giving me hope. For perhaps the first time I feel comfortable standing on the tee, feeling like I have some idea of what I should be doing, and if it goes wrong, then why. I particularly enjoyed working on this drill after getting on top of staying centred and even adding the loose belt around the waste and tail arm, to learn the function of eliminating my tendency to let the arm move away from my right side. These days, playing is filled with hope and some degree certainty that brings much joy. So thank you for your clear and precise information.

Being a fairly new golfer do you have a video where you would recommend how your body should lean over the ball, the proper place for the hands to be at impact (close or far away from the body) and with the angle of the club-the proper angle from hands to the impact area of the club? Sorry alot to ask.

So why is it you don’t see many PGA professionals keep their upper trail arm this close to their body on the backswing?? They do seam to tuck it back in as part of transitioning to the downswing,but they do not seam to keep it that close all the way. Then some do not do it at all,ie Louis Oosthuizen. What is it they are after that you don’t get with what you are suggesting? It has to be something or they would all do this for consistency.

Me again (sorry). I've been thinking about something that was very much a "Eureka" moment, or "epiphany" for me. In the first ST DVD starting at 17.00 and going to about 19:30, Mike and Andy show very clearly why "hands in" actually gives you more power (and this is without yet taking into account "hips tucked"). They actually show by measuring how much more distance the club can travel in the downswing, I have not seen a video on this from you (though, obviously, it is implied in several of the explanations you give) and just wanted to suggest that at some point you go into this. For me, it was very important, because when I went "back" to ST I couldn't really understand why there was so much power: better contact, ok...but that didn't seem to explain the very significant gains I was seeing (even now if I don't carefully examine playing conditions, such as wind, etc...I still may hit the ball over the green :-)). Anyhow, just passing on an idea for your consideration.

Been playing my best golf lately. Striking my irons pure but still could not figure out why I had to swing so hard to get distance or having to manipulate ball compression. The losing the arm wrestling thought at the top was the missing ingredient. It creates a much more natural and powerful ball striking dynamic with less effort as well. Hoping it helps reduce my back problems as well!

Is keeping the trail arm close to the torso going to conflict with my attempt to gain width in my backswing?
@joesunova8874
Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Rob. I’d like to share a fix that I discovered by accident. This is not a joke: I have struggled with maintaining wrist bend for some time. After watching this video, using a coupIe larger elastic bands across the palm of my right hand connected my right (trail) bent wrist to the back of my right bicep. Then is just took a few slow and easy swings only using my right hand to try to better sense what it felt like to actually keep the wrist bend. To my total surprise, what I actually felt was that I was keeping my right elbow pointing down. Rather than making this long post even longer, let me just say that rather than think about bending my wrist I now ONLY think about keeping my right elbow pointing down, which keeps my wrist bent automatically! And my strikes are amazingly better! Any thoughts on this?

I found this video to be very valuable. I have always positioned my right elbow to the side of my chest. After watching this video I moved my elbow to the front of my chest and kept it there throughout the swing. I was able to hit the ball longer and straighter. Sometimes, in an attempt to gain more distance, the back of my left hand would get bent forward resulting in pulls and hooks. But when I was able to keep the back of the left hand straight with the left arm I had very good results. I plan to continue to work on Rob's tips on the trail arm. Jim Ward, Tampa, Fl

How important do you think shaft weight is? Because of the price point I bought a set of Takomo 101 iron switch is a gel filled cavity back. They are beautiful they came stock with a 4 through PW lamkin grips and KBS tour regular 110 g steel shafts. I did not hit them but a few times but I was told they may be too heavy for me because I am 80 years of age. So I pulled all the heads in order a full set uncut of TaylorMade M2 55 g senior Flex iron set. I hit them okay but I think I'm getting too old for this game but I've always preferred steel and I wonder if I should put the steel shafts back in. I have a good idea you are going to tell me to get fitted but I do not have the money to do that and probably not much playing time left to do that. How much difference do you think it makes because it's much easier to work with steel then graphite as you know.

I went back to the driving range today and it was all gone. I was mostly coming over the top and topping the ball and knowing what I was doing wrong and could not correct it as I did yesterday. I came back and watched your video and it looks to me like you are turning your hips into more of a modern day swing. I had about 65 balls today with a six iron trying to slide my hips to the left side and I bowed my knee out and it is hurting like a b****. I thought I kind of had it together but it's hard as it will be I'm just going to give up. I have an ass load of golf clubs that I need to sell but you can't get any money because eBay takes it all.
