I built something very similar. I used extra large paint roller pans lined with green astroturf in a plywood boxed shaped similarly. Works great.

Actually we've got 40+ chickens and they lay spotless clean eggs everyday in their nest boxes because we keep the coop clean. As long as you have a clean coop and clean nesting boxes your eggs will come out spotless 👍

I use the rollout boxed from PulletsPlus in Canada. They're almost identical and cost $120 less. The only difference is you have to specify which direction you want the eggs to roll when you order.

@OakAbode absolutely. We now have basically zero broken eggs (unless we drop one) and very rarely do I need to wash any.

Thank you for mentioning this option, as I am also Canadian. Unfortunately, as flipping cool as these are--exchange, duties, shipping, taxes make this a steep option here in the North! As much as I want to fork it out!! 😅

We’ve had some broken eggs. Especially if I don’t get out enough to check the box. This roll out box would be awesome but we don’t have the funds to get one, so I’ll continue to go out multiple times a day. What do you do with all your eggs? We have 6 hens and when they’re in full laying mode that can add up quick.

I've never had a problem with broken eggs but I've put a few (3) stones, the same shape and size as eggs in each of two nesting boxes and the stones get moved around - but no broken eggs; so maybe it helps - or maybe I'm lucky?

At $35-40 for a 5 lb. bag, those Grubterra treats are quite expensive by themselves, not to mention all the other costs related to raising chicken eggs. I'm all about healthy food, but at some point you have to wonder how much is a home grown egg worth?

Dirty eggs can be given to the dogs. They can be given raw in the shell, raw out of the shell, hard boiled in the shell, or scrambled. All of the above are safe and fine for dogs.

I used to have a dog that would eat them unbeknownst to us. We brought him to the vet bc he was acting sick & they took a blood sample & it was positive for salmonella. So we had to test all the chickens & just one of our chickens tested positive & was carrying the disease. We had to give them all antibacterial medications then we had to have them all tested multiple times before they were cleared from it & we could safely eat the eggs again bc they pass it on to the egg while it's forming inside them before it gets its shell. Unfortunately my dog died from it. But we do give raw eggs to our chickens to help them regain nutrients lost from laying eggs so if we get an egg that's cracked or covered in 💩 we just give it to the chickens now. & We've dog proofed where the eggs are laid however some of my chickens like to lay randomly in our yard so we do daily egg hunts to make sure the dogs don't get them anymore. I don't like to tell others what they should & shouldn't do but I posted this anyways for the sake of knowledge bc I sure do miss my dog 😢

Hello i know this is a little off topic but this is your newest vid so I hope you will see this😅 in some of your other videos with the chick setups you mentioned that you hate how they get shavings in there water if you put wire mesh lined with wood when they jump up it nocks off the shavings on there feet I hope this helps if you need it

Don’t ever throw out a dirty or old egg! Put them in a little hole in your garden and cover them up. The worms love your eggs too! 🪱

I see that the nest box for up to 20 birds has only one laying area. Do your hens find another place to nest if they want to lay eggs at the same time? I have 18 hens, would I need the 2 nest box option in order to prevent this?
@bc-guy852

Great video. Is that the only station you have? I had heard that for conventional nesting boxes plan on about four hens per box. Clearly in your roll away system the ratio is MUCH higher. How many total 'spots' do you have? (Just the one, 2 section unit) and how many hens share it?

LOL me too. And I use the same nesting mats they use in this system and they never even get dirty - just dusty. Only one broken egg - ever - but one of these would be ver' nize.
