A couple things: 1) Show the POI in the secondary photo. That helps the reviewer reconcile the location. 2) Look into IITC. I'm a reviewer on Wayfarer, you have to be careful to also take a good quality photo with no direct sunlight like in your example which washed out the photo, that would not be accepted. In your evidence photo you have to have the thing your submitting in it and everything around it showing it's accessible. I would not just take a shot of the sidewalk, you need the POI in the photo as well. So in this example you'd stand further back from the overlook trail sign and take a shot of it that shows the sign and surrounding sidewalk. Other than that the rest of this is spot on 👍

I apologize for the harsh words, but this video is....rough. Great video idea overall but there's a lot of misinformation. I know most of these points of been made already, but I wanted to compile everything I noticed into a list for you for some general future advice. It's clear that you're not entirely sure how S2 cells work or how to refer to them and their levels. You can only have one Pokestop per Level 17 S2 cell. Level 14 S2 cells are the ones that determine gym creation. Also, the Ingress Intel Map (IITC) is your best bet if you want a map of the S2 cells. The website you linked is not fully accurate with the cells, and it's also user-submitted, so many, many pokestops will not show on it (and if they do, they might be in the wrong location and possibly the wrong cell). IITC is much more accurate, MUCH more helpful (i.e. it can mark off occupied level 17 cells for you), and easier to use. Your supporting photo should SHOW the poi and as much of its surroundings as possible. Reviewers usually rely on the supporting photo to help confirm the location of your nomination, so if you're not showing it in your supporting photo, you risk a rejection for "Fake" or "Mismatched Location." You shouldn't be encouraging people to submit pokestops at their houses. Private Residential Property is ineligible and will be rejected, including little free libraries in front of your house. The list of categories is NOT a list of what's eligible - it's a list that Niantic uses to categorize Wayspots by type, which they could implement in future Niantic games. You should also talk more about Wayfarer. wayfarer.nianticlabs.com is the website where people can manage their nominations (edit/withdraw/view status) and also review other people's nominations. It also has criteria pages that are absolutely vital to learning how to submit good candidates: wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/new/criteria/eligibility Minor wording adjustment - "navigational signs" are not all eligible. It kinda sounds like you're encouraging people to submit road signs. You submitted a trail marker (which is awesome! Glad you got those accepted!) I'm sure you have some questions - PLEASE feel free to join the Wayfarer Discussion Discord server (discord.gg/niawayfarer). There are many, many experienced Wayfarers there that would 100% be willing to offer you advice for future videos, or just advice for anything Wayfarer related in general (nomination improvement, S2 cells, etc). Thank you for reading if you made it this far, I do apologize for all the criticism but I feel like it needed to be said. Thanks for encouraging Wayfaring.

I've been doing this since 2019 when it became available in PoGo.. I have to disagree with some of Billy's suggestions. 1- use IITC mobile.. with the grid overlay. you don't have to mark off any existing stops. because IITC pulls in all of Niantic Wayfarer POIs in Ingress and PoGo... I use IITC all the time. 2- the list of what the POI you submit is NOT what is accepted. it is just a list of what POIs could be.. doesn't mean it is accepgtable.. I've created over 500 stops and no idea how many gyms I've triggered.

Great video for beginners about the S2 cells. As someone else said, the supporting photo needs to have what you are submitting in it, so that reviewers can make sure it is really where you pinned it. Also, those categories are NOT what is eligible. "Elementary school" for example is a category and is specifically not allowed. And if you are going to encourage people to submit, please encourage people to review. The backlog in Cary NC is two years and four months to get a decision. I really love how you encouraged people to look in open S2 cells and not submit garbage nominations, but anything placed on the property of a single family residence is ineligible.

That may be the "rule", but it's a stupid one and is obviously not enforced. Some people have yard art at their single family dwelling and it IS a pokestop. As it should be. @cadevoller

@@whiterabbit6341 the “rule” is in place for real, legal reasons. Big piece of advice - anything that is on a residential property (such as in front of a house) will automatically be rejected. Also - do NOT try to create pokestops at places that may interfere with emergency services such as hospitals! Thanks for making the video. The Pogo community needs to know what they can do to improve the game. However, there were a lot of things that were missing. - S2 cells. Without going into detail you should mention the different sizes and what they mean. (Also, I must have missed it but I didn't see the link for S2 cells in the description). - Approval process. This is just as, if not more, important than the submission process. If people really want to add more POIs they also need to get set up on wayfarer and review/approve them. It's peer approved and, as a long time submitter, the more submissions just back log the system. Another huge thing, the review community can be extremely petty at times. You'll either have people arbitrarily rejecting POIs because they are quickly going through the reviewing process to get the wayfarer agreement badge. Or you'll get Karens who reject POIs because of the tiniest of details. The more reviewers who want to contribute to the community are needed.

@@cadevoller extremely valid point and I appreciate your response. Totally get the idea about a submitter doing their research. I know from my geocaching days about this kind of process. A submitter should do their work, that doesn't release the reviewer from any responsibility to do a conscientious, educated review. In my example of a rejection of an baseball diamondbin a public park, public parks some of them are in fact often lined with residential properties. But if I'm giving a description, photos, and mapping that indicates where that object is in the public park and the nearest residential property is 500 feet from that's a lot different than nomination of an object that's immediately adjacent to somebody's front yard. Don’t forget you can appeal rejections. I’ve done more than 2000 reviews on Wayfinder and I am painstaking in my efforts to confirm location, validity, and more, so it bothers me to no end when a submission of mine gets rejected because the reviewer as either lazy (“location does not exist”… except it’s a park that appears in the photo, street view, AND satellite photos) or they just reject everything. I’ve appealed five rejections and all were later approved. The problem I have with the system is the S cells. There is one MASSIVE s-cell that my apartment and 8 other large apartment complexes fall into, as well as three small parks, a temple, and other objects of interest (not to mention a million signboards, which are all the rage now). We get one stop. That’s it. Down the road the s-cells form a grid pattern one-tenth the size of the one I’m in, for no discernible reason - maybe a couple of houses per cell, whereas more than 3000 people live in our single cell. I’ve had six stops approved in my area and only one has appeared in the next cell. Quite frustrating when some people have numerous stops and gyms within each of home (and even call the gyms they “home gyms”) when you have to don your jacket and brave the elements just to spin one or join a raid directly.

A few thoughts I had while watching this. Main photo: While the existing photos for the accepted POIs are great, the quick-and-dirty photo you take of the trail sign here is pretty bad, with heavy sun glare. Those photos tend to get otherwise great POIs rejected. Take the time to take a good photo! Supporting photo: Do not just turn around 180 degrees and take a photo. The supporting photo should be used as additional verification that the POI exists and helps reviewers cross-reference its location. It's great for new POIs that may not appear on satellite or streetview yet. Keep the POI in the supporting photo and show the wider area. I've had to reject things while reviewing because of this; the main photo might be amazing, but the supporting photo doesn't show it and I can't discern the location otherwise, so then I have to give the location a low rating or reject it outright. Categorizing the location: This is not a hard-and-fast list of "things that will get accepted." As an example, "Vehicle Traffic Sign" is one of the categories, but you should never accept something like a generic stop sign or yield sign, unless there was something *very* unique about it (example off the top of my head: the Mile 0 marker for US 1 in Key West). That being said, it could give you a general idea of things to look out for when looking for submissions.

@nikterot

Definitely do a bit of reviewing to see what other people are submitting and how to make a better submission. For rural the biggest problem is nothing is allowed on or even on the fence of single family private property. Look for public areas where there might be trail signs, historic buildings that are not houses, and depending on the country look for USGS survey markers (the Australian version is generally too common and generic).
@woodwose
Жыл бұрын
It depends on what kind of rural area you're in, but things like nature reserves and hiking trail markers are great. Also: Churches and temples, historical signs, permanent memorials (like war memorials), community centres, social clubs like Moose Lodges, Lions Clubs or cultural clubs, tourist attractions, and taverns/pubs. Some rural general stores and cafes have random curiosities like wood carvings and murals which are awesome potential wayspots.

Neighbor has a small farm stand in the lot next to their house and they sell fresh seasonal produce there quite often and has been doing so for 30 years now, and seeing random cards parked there is nothing new. I think it would be a nice edition as a Pokestop, especially now since the town is working on bringing more life to this end of a small town with reconstruction on the post office, church and other sites already used as gyms. Just gotta get to the appropriate level to send in the nomination.

I wish there was a way to get the voters/reviewers to act fairly or for Niantic to punish users who are clearly rejecting good stops. It's so bad I just assume that everything I submit will be rejected and I'll have to use the "Appeal" function. Appeals take a long time, but everything I've appealed so far was approved by Niantic staff, so I know my submissions are good. (I also know, because the reasons for rejecting are bogus like "Third Party Photo")

I have come to the conclusion that it's easier to try try try try try try again vs appealing as that takes far longer then trying many times over (I have appealed a decision about 6 months ago, also submitted it again, it's now a stop but still waiting on the appeal to say it now a duplicate 🤦♂️, wish I could just with draw it)

I’m a reviewer, and reviewers will get their reviewer rating lowered if they disagree with most other reviewers. If their rating gets low enough they won’t be able to review anymore. Because of this, all reviewers try to follow the Niantic rules as much as possible. From my experience, there’s a reason almost all denied stops are denied, it’s that the person who submitted that stop doesn’t know the rules.

If it helps, you should post these Not Accepted nominations onto the subreddit NianticWayfarer and get some feedback on why they weren't approved. Many comments are critical but usually provide a lot of information on how to improve your nominations.

Make a nice photo, we consider it In the supporting photo, try to include as much as you can to confirm it's location. Review properly. Without the IITC-CE mobile map (which he must have removed the links for) you are just nominating the usual way. Blindly. That map is key to pin placement and seeing whether or not the wayspot has already been accepted by Niantic or not. Homes are private property. Most nominations on private property will be rejected (except for those little libraries).

I have submitted so many I woukd guess nearly 100 and none were apporoved. A year later there are most of them some with even my exact picture but mine was rejected. Then with living rural now. You cannot do that unless you are near a city. More country its harder to get apporval. I still have some from a year ago neither apporved or rejected. Thus game on this aspect, but glad you explained it better for those who are trying to still submit stops

The thing with Not Accepted nominations in the past is that Niantic loosened up the guidelines recently and there are an influx of new players every season. Older gen raters are often critical of nominations and if done poorly will not get accepted. New raters will often rate highly on nominations because they don't fully understand what they're doing and will 4-5* everything, so new nominations of old Not Accepted ones will go through. Then add on loosened guidelines and a lot of old Not Acceptables are now acceptable.
@romeomicpheerson3471
Жыл бұрын
@@seedspittinspacecowboy does it also require multiple person apporval? As i feel very few around who approve. Might also be the issue as too many only want to approve ones in town and not those in more rural areas.
@nikterot

@@romeomicpheerson3471 Yes, to get something either approved or denied takes lots and lots of voters. This is not a one person job and the more people vote the faster things move through the system. There is a steep learning curve to voting so if you get a lot of new voters then expect a few inappropriate rejections.

Despite the Pokémon app having a link to "Nominate Pokestop" You're not nominating a PokéStop you're nominating a Wayfarer Spot that may not even show up in Pokemon rather it could be used in Ingress or one of the other Niantic games. But about the mapping, I was told by Niantic support the other day that using third-party mapping sites and software to assist a trainer in placing a Wayfarer spot is a violation of TOS and is not encouraged because you could be banned. Were they lying to me or is this a perk that some Pokémon trainers can use?
