Spiking the brain does work, I've always used my needle nose pliers just because it's on my belt, stops them immediately them bleed em. A spike would be a lot easier. Spinal tap sounds great! Thanks for the tip!

Very nice explanation! Do you keep the fish on the deck while bleeding? I have seen people hanging them back in the water to get more blood out, or is that also to counter the clogging?

You can use the knife to spike and bleed the fish but you need the wire for the Shinke Jime. Aftco sells them.

that fish needs hand crafted lures, costing minimum 10000000 dollars, cus u want it feel appriciated before taking its life. Its simply the least u can do for this fish. And the boat cannot be a simple wooden rowing boat.. It has to cost at the very least 1 million dollars. The line has to be silk, and spun by hand... the higher treads per inch the better. but as long as its very expensive. But seriously. Im all for the handling and such... But I hear Aftco and I just want to use the spike on myself..

"give that fish some respect" My only complaint is your gaffer gaffed that tuna in some good meat area albeit close to the top spine...if the fish was being sold to the Japanese, they wouldn't pay top dollar cuz some of the meat was ruined. But great job educating other fishermen in America.....many fishermen think this is BS and it's torture and demented.

ON party boats it can be a "get it in the boat" situation often with multiple fish hanging. On our private boats the fish are treated to sushi standards.

Why is this method only being shown recently/now when these thousands of dollars fish have been hunted for donkeys years as prime top of the line meat. I’ve seen these Japanese fishermen who chop them up like surgeons with so much care and precision on videos but never seen this being done before. Just curious as I thought we’d have seen this years ago because it’s such a big industry. Thanks in advance 👍

Commercial rod and reel bluefin fisherman have been doing this for decades here on the east coast. We use an old CB radio antenna. We swim the fish for an hour or more to get the core temp down, then spike, bleed, run the wire, and ice down.Nothing cools a tuna down faster than swimming them.
