An introduction to playing 'Outside' the standard chord changes on standard jazz tunes.
This is a huge subject, and one that I have been fascinated with since getting into jazz guitar near three decades ago. At first I had limited success, as you will hear in the video!
It took many years of trial and error before I realised what it was that was holding me back from capturing the sounds I was hearing from my favourite players.
Hopefully, with the information I've shared in this lesson, you'll be able to master the art of playing 'Outside the Changes' a lot more quickly than I was able to.
Examples given in this lesson are using Major Triads & Pentatonics to access 'Outside' sounds. But these same concepts can be applied to Minor Triads & Pentatonic, Four-Part Chords, and so forth.
[I'm happy to go into more detail on this in future lessons - let me know in the comments]
Special thanks to Duncan Allan who was behind the camera on the skateboarding clips.
As always, thanks for supporting the Music Magus channel, and all the best with your music.
