One of my faviourate topics that doesn't get talked about enough! I see so many trainers struggling to get precise behaviours because they lack proper reward placement.

Dog training is so interesting! We really have to study our dogs for all the little nuances so we can train them in a way that is best for them. Thank you for all this information!

Agree I wish he'd do more classroom type videos! Like the drive thing I always thought I knew what drives were, then I watched him explain it, and now I see the different behaviour and able to read my dog further.

Im in the process (well duh, its forever lol) of training my 10mo Caucasian Shepherd, and your videos are a great help. We work with a trainer, but the added insight of your videos is very helpful. Much appreciated. Working on heel right now and hes doing great. Consistency is the main struggle, as he is brilliant but stubborn.

It's funny I once left a comment on a dog trainer's page pointing out the pros of reward placement, and they acted like they hadn't even thought of it. It's just common sense to me. But I guess some people get stuck in the quadrants, thinking reward and punishment can create any behaviour on their own.

Good job explaining the differences between how the reward ahead of time shapes the behaviour vs. the reward after the desired behaviour. Yes, dogs are very attentive and watch carefully especially when it dawns on them that you are the 'boss." Gotta a question: I see your dog is 'real' working line - the jumping up is a characteristic. What do you do with dogs who jump on people because they're excited to see 'any" person and want to get close to their face? Do you only allow your dog to jump up toward you?

This was gold I’ve been working on tightening up our heel and getting her to focus upwards. I have been messing up with the reward delivery. Also what collar is that you’re using that stays right behind the ears?

Another example. Training your dog to "down" on a line. If you throw the reward forward, the dog will tend to creep forward for reward. If you always throw it behind the dog, they won't creep forward.

i have a question, in order to complete BH-VT exam and have a working dog, does the dog have to be separated, not living as a pet , living in a fenced part so he is longing for you and has to have his meals given to him only through training so hes hungry and you can condition him through that feeling of hunger ? Or it is not important to condition this way and you can have him as a pet inside living with you and not condition through meals and separation , but through other means.

I'm no expert, but I spend a good amount if time with them. I've seen some amazing protection dogs come from homes where they live full time as a pet. Is it optimal? I have no idea, but I know it can be done.
