I have my main rooms deeply decluttered. Last weekend, we had a house guest stay and it was the first time I didn't stress over getting the house ready. Instead, I could focus on planning meals. It was an enjoyable visit and the house still looked nice when they left.

SO true! Since starting my decluttering journey I have dropped my weekly cleaning from 4 hours down to 1 1/2 hours and my daily chores have dropped to around 30 minutes. It’s wonderful.

I timed making our bed. 41 seconds, and it makes such a huge difference in the room! Apparently, it's a priority for me because it's such an easy win. I do hate changing the sheets because the platform bed's mattress is HEAVY! I save that chore for when my husband can help.

I do something that probably sounds crazy but I dampen one of my large cleaning towels and throw it in the floor while I’m cooking or working in the kitchen, I’m a very messy person😂. Then I use my feet to scoot the towel along as I work and it keeps my spills, etc, cleaned up as I go and I’m basically mopping my kitchen as I work. It’s essentially helpful if I’m expecting guests.

I completely changed how I clean my bathroom. I have a tiny bathroom, but I found places to store a cleaning product and sponges and wipes. Now, as soon as I get out of the shower, I can spray and sponge clean, tossing the sponge in the hamper. I can also use the wipes to wipe toilet or sink and toss in trash can. I have special glass drying cloths ( made for drying dishes) to wipe my mirror and dry bathroom sink. I do just ONE of these things throughout the day and voila my bathroom stays clean. I also occasionally use the wipes to clean my bathroom floor and toss in trash. In less than 2 minutes I can clean one area. So it’s never a separate chore to find time for.

I’ve found that creating a checklist of 5 to 10 minute declutter individual tasks helps me. Such as kitchen utensil drawer, coat closet, junk drawer, night stand drawer, sock drawer, etc. otherwise when I do have a few minutes I feel overwhelmed on where to start or what to work on. Or my brain freezes up and can’t remember or think of a small task I can complete. It’s a good reminder that I don’t have to tackle decluttering the entire dresser or closet at once but instead just a drawer or section of the closet. Knowing ahead what still needs to be done and grabbing one here and there helps me a lot.

I found that what I HATED about vacuuming was the CORD! So, I invested in a cordless vacuum! It cuts the time dramatically, and my frustration and subsequent procrastination down to about nothing. I went the extra mile and ordered the Dyson 15 that has a laser on the floor attachment along with a computerized counter on top. For someone like me who needs to see progress, both of those enhancements are game changers.

"Having your work undone by other members of your family...." - I nipped this potential problem in the bud early on with my kids. At the end of the day, after dinner, any item that was not where it belonged was put into a laundry basket by the front door (which was also near the stairway to the bedrooms). Told everyone to check the basket for things they forgot to clean up earlier, and anything that was still in the basket, or not where it belonged before I went to bed was going out on the front porch to be donated or trashed. Only had to follow through once for the message to get through. Saved my sanity as a parent, because (1) I am the parent, not the housekeeper/maid, and (2) every family member should be contributing to the upkeep of our home.

It's interesting to read the comments and watch other lifestyle videos where people say what their priorities are. For me, making the bed is a priority but a glass or two from evening snacks sitting in the sink overnight isn't. Everyone is different...how boring it would be if everyone was the same! I recall a Minimal Mom video where she was helping her daughter organize her room. She's big on making the bed but her daughter's sheets were filthy. Much as I like seeing the bed made, knowing the sheets underneath are dirty would ruin it for me. Love your videos and your bright smile! (Also love the lip color you're wearing in this one!)

I did a life changing declutter over 6 years ago . Now as I see something or as I clean an area I declutter. You are right it’s a lifestyle not a project . If I don’t feel like doing something…. I do one item or spend one minute. I also think so I want to go back to messy clutter ever again . Remember a tiny mess becomes a mountain mess very quickly so it’s best to tackle tiny messes . I learned when you are going from one area to another make sure you have something in your hand ( example from my room to kitchen I take the drinking glasses) Also always leave a room cleaned up ( example you just ate , dishes in the dishwasher or wash them and wipe down the counter and put all things away)

Wow! Decluttering while cleaning is really great idea! I hate cleaning fridge and showers ugh when I clean, I do the worst first..I do the hardest when I am fresh..I do that at work too! Love giving the children responsibility. We were taught to help when young and we had a house cleaner once a week...but we had to do our own rooms and help! It taught me to find satisfaction in cleaning and sense of accomplishment. I am severe asthmatic and shouldn't have to clean at all..but I enjoy it and am AOK if I keep on top of it and I feel really satisfied and content. A clean home is a healthy home....great video!!

I've handed off the chores that I hate doing to my kids. One of those is clearing off everything that piles up on the stairs. A lot of it is their stuff anyway. The other is unloading the dishwasher. But they do it together and can get it done in just a minute or two. It use to be a constant struggle to get my house in order because I used to just do everything myself. But now that I get my family involved in helping out and picking up after their selves more, our home stays so much cleaner.

And often the tasks you hate, they don’t mind! For me, it’s washing dishes, and the feeling of food brushing my hand. But I can dry, load a dishwasher, put away, package leftovers, and do food prep. I let other people do the washing, and then have energy for everything else!

I do NOT understand how someone can move on with their day without making your bed. The “minimal mom”said that too. It’s the single task that makes me feel like everything is put together and makes me ready for the day. If every time I passed by the bedrooms and saw messy, unmade beds, it would make me feel like the house wasn’t put together.

Same, can't stand an unmade bed. Mine takes 45 seconds to do. Flick & fold the blanket, flick the pillow, flick the bedsheet to remove any dead skin or dust that may have accumulated in the night. Sorry the right verb eacapes me but I mean flicking or waving like trying to get dust off. Then fix everything - tuck the bedsheet, place pillows and blankets in a neat pile at the head area of the bed. I think why people don't like making their beds is because they make it so complicated. It doesn't have to be. It can be as simple as just putting all your pillows and folded blanket in a neat pile. If you're thinking to make a Pinterest bed every day then of course most people don't have time for that. Maybe do the minimal bed making on weekdays and just do the Pinterest bed on weekends. Having a neat & tidy house but an unmade bed just sounds awfully incongruent and weird.
