In an old video, this channel said N. Korea was permanently out of the Olympics because the IOC had a new rule where all athletes had to be available 24/7 for testing along with their exact locations. Did the DPRK make a deal with the IOC for an exception? If so, good. The Olympics is not the same without North Korean athletes. 🤔

The push press variation is kinda genius. Gives you a little bit more practice generating power with your body but has more of an eccentric and concentric portion to the lift compared to a standard push press. Bit of hip movement also allows more weight to be used. I'd say probably better at building muscle than a normal push press. Maybe worth a try?

I saw a video of Om Yun Chol pressing like that, and started pressing that way. I like it. It's probably not worth much, but years ago Kirksman Teo on his old site said basically North Koreans train similarly to the Chinese, but have much more emphasis on speed compared to the Chinese. Kirksman also said more Russian influence, too, which, who knows. I kinda personally see perhaps some Japanese influence in their training, with many of them using a close stance/frog start, and the fact that Japanese were very into pressing and pulls years ago, too. Even now with pressing you can see Mikiko Andoh pressing 65kg for reps pretty easily BTN, and other Japanese female lifters pressing 60-70kg pretty easily.

I obviously can’t say for certain but here are a couple things I think should get mentioned for their success. 1) Obviously juicing. Yes, everybody is juicing, but when you get tested significantly less that extra time you have makes a big difference. 2) The sheer weight they carry on their shoulders is more motivation than most other athletes have. For them, this is their entire life, from dusk to dawn and probably get started at a younger age than most if they show any potential. That mixed with everything they have to lose if they don’t perform is more motivation than ever. You either get to continue living like a celebrity there or bring shame upon your family, possibly get outcasted, and have to endure the life that most NK’s have to face. That would for sure make me be my absolute best day in and day out.

Kinda sus. No comp since 2019 and then come back so strong??? Sounds fishy to me! Doping does have long-term benefits. Of course you also need skill.
Let's be honest here. They blast massive amounts of gear. Am i saying other countries aren't taking PED's? Definitely not. Everyone knows China, Russia, Bulgaria, Turkye, Romania and the usual suspects are taking stuff but North Koreans are almost untestable considering how hard it is to just enter the country. Don't get me wrong, Weightlifting is a juiced sport which doesn't bother me personally and the North Koreans just train ridiculously hard which i absolutely respect irrelevant if they take something or not but let's stop pretending that we don't know how they are so dominant when in fact every moron with the slightest amount of brain capacity knows what's going on. I still love watching them lift and i like their team a lot because they brought back some energy and atmosphere which was lacking previously for a long period of time. That's why i also look forward to Russia finally executing Putin and returning back to competition so competition get's more interesting again because China, NK, Russia, Bulgaria and the other juice kings can battle it out again. Anyways thank you Seb and the whole team of weightlifting house for creating such great content on a regular basis. Weightlifting journalism grew massively because of your work and dedication!
