I may not live in NYC, but I am a firm believer in history, & preserving history. It's awesome to see all the granite stonework being preserved to it's former glory. I enjoy watching your videos! Keep up the good work!

Interesting video. ..love your channel. I'm a resident of Toronto Canada but used to spend days touring around the Five Boroughs checking out roads, bridges and subways. A bit of an infrastructure geek....nothing beats NYC in the cool factor! Keep up the good work!

I was born in the Bronx in the 50's on University Avenue. After my neighbor was murdered on the street walking his dog at night by a black man we moved out of the Bronx. Many good memories of Highbridge area before it turned bad.

Thank you for making this great video. It is so important that we preserve our history and people like you help to document those days gone by. I will probably never get to see this park, but please let us know when it opens and what happened to the fixtures. Thanks again

Nice work Joe. As a kid in the sixties, and from the other side of the river, we treated the HighBridge as our personal playground. Yes it was locked off but we got in the Joe way. Few people know the big masonry bridge pier is hollow, it was were the teens would drink beer. Kids could also explore the original aqueduct from inside it. Mostly the bridge was used for diving in the river. The daredevils jumped from the higher girders 3 or 4 on the arch.

I remember as a kid I was never allowed to go to the pool at high bridge park, and my mom was always cautious with me around 168th and fort Washington by presbyterian hospital because of the halfway house there.

hi. I believe the steel door leads to an entrance to the access area for the croton water transfer station. it is seldom used but back in the day drug addicts broke in and stole pipe and materials for scrap value. I would love to get in there and look around :-)

Pt. 345. I drive by the High Bridge via the Harlem River Drive quite often as I make my way to the GW Bridge and always wonder why stone wasn't used for the entire expanse of the bridge but the part of the bridge that spans the river, metal chosen for the center instead. Ten years post this video but, I'm hoping you're still doing this and know the answer.

Nice job Joe. I'm all about re-furbishing antiques back to their original glory but to rip out an iconic light post and slam something back in that's made in China really is a crime. I hope they don't rape the park too much when re-furbishing it. It's good to see they are doing something though. I've never been to New York but if I go, I want Crazy New York Driver telling me which fences to jump over. Glad you didn't get pinched by the cops!

Never on schedule. Reopened in 2015, not 2013. They've got plenty of time and money to needlessly rename roads and bridges though.

I was taking photos in HB Park for my rock climbing app CLIMB NYC and went through those areas on my way back (had no idea where I was). There were needles EVERYWHERE. Super sketchy. I wouldn't recommend going around there. Stick to the high traffic areas only.

I really enjoy your videos, these are great. Like you I hate when they rip out the original heritage of a site. Especially when it dates back as far as most of the New York and New Englands sites do. It would not take much more to clean up and re-use all those original fixtures. Here in America we tear our heritage down, what a shame...I love architecture, so New York and New England architecture is eye candy to me, love it! Thank You so much for sharing these!
