He said as in a key word for soldiers so any soldier or marine who is in a paratrooper divison like for the US ours are the 82nd and 101st are well funded and well trained soldiers. He’s just saying in general that paratrooper soldiers are better trained and well equipped compared to a soldier or marines that just a grunt. Grunt is a term to describe soldier and marines who are infantry just like theirs and out airborne division, except they are not in any schools, schools in the military are not schools reading books and stuff it’s an ass kicker for sure but it’s what makes you a better soldier or marine. Schools the military have each country is different this more associated with the US are, Sniper School, SERE School, Ranger school, airborne school (does not mean you are part of the 82nd or 101st), Dive school, Medical School, there’s more but these are the most common ones and open for all branches in the US the schools however are more so in the Army than the marines. SERE schools is a school for special operations unit for all including like delta and DEVGRU, except delta and DEVGRU is more of an “advanced” level of SERE school more so evasion, resistance and survival Ranger school not to get twisted with our 75th Ranger regiment. Ranger school is a leadership school is a great gate way to get in to the special operations community but usually don’t need but excellent course to go through. And you’ll get a tab that’s says Ranger. 75th rangers on the other hand are the Rangers if somebody says they are an Army Ranger they are part of the 75th Ranger regiment,they are a part of the special operations group and before you make fun of them majority of them are selected through Delta force. And one way you can tell from both rangers is that, if one has a tab that’s black and yellow the dude went through Ranger school, if you see a man with a Scroll that says 2nd, 3rd, or 1st battalion Ranger, these guys are the ones who have a tan beret and you don’t fuck with those guys at all. Before old dudes kill for saying their beret is black. Yes I do know they’re original beret is black but they changed it to tan during the middle of the GWOT era. I believe they changed it at around 2012 or 2015

Bank holiday weekend went to local seaside town woke up Saturday morning in some random chicks bed then headed back to the pub i met her because the in house DJ was crazy techno where she introduced me to a mate from school and his mate who were Para's on leave and both spoke fluent french which was pretty much unheard of back then especially two early 20 lads in a pub, they were the most friendliest guys and insisted on getting the pints in all day n night, we were all wasted. Next morning went back to pub and they were both a bloody mess with fresh blooded bandages. Turns out they borrowed another friends motorbike and came off on loose gravel, spent the early hrs in hospital no sleep and back in pub showing off the gashes the nurse took tarmac out of, it was shorts n t shirt weather. We got wasted again and they admitted they were now French Foreign Legion gone AWOL wanted to spend the wkend at his birthplace and were heading back to France next morning. A memorable weekend, during the 90s i had hundreds but not with 2 crazy Army cats.

What you need to build an effective army is the ability to get the best out of average individuals rather than winnowing groups to find the elites. That is something that can be scaled up to create more combat power than a couple of battalions of super-athletes.
@grant3933
6 ай бұрын
That works for standard military units but units like the the Paras are elite and require elite people, otherwise you risk watering down what makes those units so effective. Many people can be a soldier but only a few can be an exceptional soldier.
@llewev
6 ай бұрын
@@grant3933 That is the whole problem, elite units are too few. It is the standard of the average unit and the ability to use effective combined arms that determines the combat power available. (Elite paratroops can be smashed by some average troops armed with artillery). The Navy and RAF manage without the obsession with "elites" - which are bad for the morale of other units. Every serviceman should be encouraged to make his unit the best there is.
@grant3933
6 ай бұрын
@@llewev The main reason why militaries don't train soldiers this way comes down to one thing; The mighty dollar. If a military chose to train every single soldier to airborne or SOG/SOCOM standard, they would then have to pay every soldier to reflect their SF rating and would quickly be bankrupt due to the prohibitive cost of training, not to mention the huge amount of time it takes to fully train them. We have to look at the function of elite units as well. They are specialised by definition and take part in actions and operations beyond the capabilities of a "normal" soldier and would be wasted on standard combat duties. Most soldiers are simply physically and indeed mentally incapable of withstanding the rigours of special forces training and operations. The selection processes for elite units are in place to minimise the chance that those who enter training aren't going to drop out halfway through, resulting in a huge waste of time and resources. Your point of artillery being able to negate a SF fireteam is true, but that is why they are rarely placed in situations where that can happen because they are easy to lose but extremely difficult to replace. To put it in to civilian terms, it would be like NASA spending the time and money to train someone to be an astronaut then giving them a job as a receptionist at the front desk.

Most regiments in the British Army have skills that differ from others. The Paras aren’t necessarily the best, they’re just mentioned more than other regiments, as are the Marines, and because the press and civvies think they are better. I’ve been involved in tear ups with Paras, and they’re no better or worse at having a good scrap than we were. If you push something in front of people enough times and tell them it’s the dogs bollocks, they’ll believe you because they haven’t been subjected to other choices. 💂♂️🇬🇧

No mate, there's a whole host of reasons why the likes of the marines are elite. Complete extra skill set etc. I appreciate what you're saying in the fact that if both units were asked to do the same basic infantry task then one wouldn't out perform the other but don't confuse that with thinking the elite units are the same, they're not.

Your categorically wrong if you are on the subject of frontline combat.....the paras are the primary and first line of 16 air assault brigade, the UKs global response force. Their whole training pipeline and P company course is designed around deploying ahead of the regular army with little kit or support to take areas or airfields at pace. The follow on forces then come in to support. That's the reason their fitness standards are far higher than the rest of the army and have to undertake that particular p company course. No cog in the army is more important than any other (where would we be without engineers?)...but frontline conventional warfare the Paras are the sharpest end and are trained accordingly

My biggest regret not joining para in my youth they tried getting me to join as I went to prison for steeling a car. Went to see the recruitment officer and was just cheeky to him. Even tho it was my dream to join para. I can see it in my sister kid to tell him yo join he says thinking about it. But it’s in him.

Mate respect for the fact you were tier 1 unit ie 22SAS, however I wouldn't say that the paras are the best soldiers in the British army. Besides the parachute aspect they do the exact same role as any infantry regiment , FYI British infantry training is also a six month process. All the tests that you do on 'P' company the infantry also do, its nothing special or elite about it.
