I can remember listening to ghost stories on the radio when I was a kid. I would be so gripped with fear my heart would be racing! Listening to ghost stories on the radio can be more terrifying than watching them on TV.

This is the stuff that superhero stories are made of ...so sad that now simple stories that sound like this are now ridiculously blown out of proportion and without direction

Diphylla ecaudata, also known as the hairy-legged vampire bat, inhabits forests in northeastern Brazil and is one of three species of vampire bats that feed only on blood. It was thought that birds were its sole prey, but dung analysis recently revealed that other types of two-legged animals - humans - were on the bat's bill of fare.

I have a few albumns of "The Shadow" in my Record Collection
@michaelpalmieri7335

I used to have a lot of "Shadow" stories on records, cassettes, and C.D.s, along with many other old-time radio shows. Unfortunately, I lost them all in a foreclosure back in 2011. I certainly felt bad about it, because I've been a big OTR (old-time radio) fan, as well as a big pop culture and nostalgia fan in general, since I was a kid, even though most of the classic programs went off the air before I was even born. (04/03/1960) To make matters worse, no stores nowadays seem to sell C.D.s of those old shows anymore. Not the music stores, bookstores, department stores, discount stores, NONE OF THEM! The only way to find them is from some company that sells them, like Radio Spirits, Inc. I sent away for a free catalog, but most of their products are pretty expensive. I can't afford to order them. I don't have a credit card or a debit card. I have no bank or checking account, nor even a checkbook. I pay for everything in cash, because that's all I've got, and the only reason I have it is because I'm on S.S.I. disability (my psychiatrist and former therapists say that I'm "on the spectrum" for Asperger's Syndrome and autism.) My cousin, who lives in New York State (my birthplace, incidentally), and who helped me get on disability, is my Representative Payee. The checks are first sent to him from Social Security, then he sends me the checks (now $914.00) at the end of each month, and out of that, I pay my landlord/friend $550.00 for the rent (I live in a small, one-room efficiency apartment that used to be a part of his garage), plus $30.00 for my cellphone, because it's in his name, not mine. But, I digress. That's basically the reason I can't order anything from Radio Spirits, Inc., or from anywhere else, for that matter. I could send a money order, but I'd have to pay cash for each one, and everyone says that I need to save my cash. They sometimes sell old radio show collections on eBay, but I'd need a credit card to order something off of that, and as I said before, I don't have one of those, or a debit card. I don't believe in using those things anyway, because I think they just encourage people to overspend and build up so much credit, that they'll probably never be able to pay for it all. (I did have a credit card many years ago, and I only used it one time, and I was afraid to use it again because I didn't want to run up a big bill that I'd probably never be able to pay; eventually, I let the card expire and I never renewed it.) Fortunately, I found a couple of websites that play those old programs, one of which is connected to a show that broadcasts out of Chicago (I think) that plays a lot of the old radio series. The show is sponsored by the Bradford Exchange, and is hosted by Carl Amari, who, ironically, used to work for Radio Spirits, usually doing commercials for the company (sometimes with the help of his brother, Vincent), as well as its own OTR program called "When Radio Was." (It used to hosted by the late Art Fleming, the original host of "Jeopardy" from the 1960s through the early to mid-'70s, and then after he died, he was replaced by comic Stan Freberg, but now, he's dead; I don't know if "When Radio Was" is still on the air, or if so, who's hosting it now; I'm not even sure what station, if any, it's on in my area in Florida now.) By the way, the other OTR website is called Old-Time Radio Researchers, and its internet address is otrr.org.

I think Blue Coal became the sponsor of "The Shadow" a few years after this episode was broadcast. I've heard many of the stories where Orson Welles was the voice of the Shadow, and the sponsor back then was the Goodrich Tire Company. I believe there was a season when the show was brought to the radio audiences by Wild Root Cream Oil.
