Being American, I was brought up on The Ventures. I only discovered The Shads when I bought a Wilson Bros. 'Mosrite' model from a guy who clued me in...at age 50. I was shocked and proceeded to binge-listen on KZitem. THIS is from where that whole genre started and Hank Marvin/ Shadows (along Chuck Berry) may be the earliest greatest influence of ALL guitarists Inc. Beatles, Stones, Gilmour, Clapton, on-and-on.

Once again an excellent piece of research and presentation. Great to see the cover of some of their earliest albums, most of which I used to own but have long since disappeared. Living in Townsville in the 70's and then for a few years in the Pilbara to the mid 80's I did not realise that they had produced all of those albums then. The regional radio stations would only play the then current pop tunes. I saw them live in Qld in 86 or 87 and am sure that they were using the 301. Thanks again.

Thanks for the excellent research and history lesson. For me it was all about the Classic vintage sound of the Fender Strat, Flat wounds and the Vox nasal middle sound unlike the later clearer tones of a VoX AC30 Top boost, of course for me the sound of the Meazzi was a marriage made in heaven. I have come full circle in now decrying the clinical digital echo recreations and have echo units galore. I guess the TVS concept is best in the digital bunch for reasons explained, but hanker after the true analogue sound. The idiosyncrasies of old early analogue units fwiw and my money cannot be recreated by mathematical analysis and digital reproduction. Our obsession with all things echo is a generation thing and modern guitarists will never find this kind of in depth analysis interesting as we do, but the use of any echo in a guitar instrumental is a personal thing of matching the echo sound to the phrasing so far the composition, so hat's off to Hank for the countless hours he must have spent trying all manner of echoes until he felt he'd got 3 red cherries in a row, and that sums up the magic f Hank, as his style and timing of his phrase playing was sheer magic. In summary we are all lucky in our late lives to all afford a decent fender and the albeit clinical patches that allow us to stand in front of a mirror no longer miming with a cricket bat, but actually getting a damn good approximation that made us relive our 60's youth, but instead if a wardrobe mirror our dearest and loved ones as an audience that put a grin our faces much like Hank's lol Now back to my Zimmer frame made out of an old VOX AC30 stand .......happy days . ..

Hi Spike, Paul obviously did extensive research and analysis to identify the various echo units over a fifty year period. It must have taken a long time to collate this information. It was a great meander through history that should be of interest to any Shadows fan who wants to delve beneath the surface of their changing sound over the years. It is great that we can have all those sounds in a single TVS3 unit. Thanks again and all the best to the TVS team! Cheers, James

Stuart: I'm happy you recognized the first TVS3 sold in the world which is the belonging to you :) I guess you are part of our history too. Very informative stuff, thank you, the best most spacious and mysterious sounding echo is the Meazzi, very hard to get that effect especially on digital. I have experimented for years and where most people go wrong (including Hank) is evenly spaced repeats, tiz best to leave a longish gap before the 1st repeat, on most echo's this cannot be done. . To hear what I mean on the cheap, switch off the 1st playback head on a Watkins Copicat and slow down the motor.....

I wished other artists were featured even people like Van Halen and Pink Floyd and other people who use those effects like Peter Frampton I remember a thing I think it was called a rolling k1000 or something like that I am not sure if it was interesting but I wish it's that stuff that sounded been produced in America back in the late 50s and early 60s with the Surfers
