I mentioned before how cool it is to that you find such different (and a few of the same) shells than we find in the Outer Banks, but it's really cool to hear how different parts of the FL coast yield different shells!

I really recommend writing a data slip for each shell: (Latin) name, size, date, locality, substrate, depth, and who found it. Not only does this make your collection more valuable, it is also nice when you will look at those shells 20 years later. Or your children. At 15:30 or so.... well I have collected shells for over 40 years, and the more the collection progresses, the more shells end up in boxes and those boxes in drawers. Personally I put every shell into a zip bag, including the data slip... that was one unit. And all those bags went into plastic boxes. If you have thousands of shells you simply cannot display them anymore. Maybe a hundred or so but the rest is kept safe from light, dust, acids, etc. But I gave my collection away recently due to health issues. My former home has been scrapped (at least, the interior), and my residence is a nursing home now, where I live my last months or years in a fairly small apartment, about 46 m2.

This is a great piece of advice. You're absolutely right. Initially we thought that just videoing every shell that we find would be sufficient for documenting because it proves where and what date/time we found the shell, but it's easy to lose track of the videos, whereas with the data slip, it always sticks with the shell. Thank you for the great feedback here!

Wonderful shells, I can't wait to binge the rest of your episodes. Those Atlantic Deer Cowries are beautiful - just a bit bigger than my Pacific Deers. So beautiful, you found some great ones! I also love those albino shells; the whelk and fighting conch.Even the more common shells like olives and moon snails are so interesting to me. Your vase shells are hands-down amazing, I've never seen those shells before. I'm looking forward to seeing you future shell finding adventures.

I live about 3 hours north of you on the coast, and LOVE to get to Jupiter area as I can (OMG, hotel prices in the winter! Yikes!). I've only been in FL for a year and a half, but love the beach, the birds, the critters, the shells! Nice to find you channel. TY, I look forward to watching the rest and of course your future videos!

Hi Diane! Welcome aboard. :) I(the husband shell nut) am originally from Saint Augustine and New Smyrna Beach so I'm quite familiar with that area. And yes, hotel prices have just been awful. The Keys have been really bad. Hope you can make your way down here soon. :) Again, thanks for tuning in! -Chris

Love your new page!! Just watched all of your episodes. You mentioned ‘west coast’ shelling & ‘east coast’ shelling several times. Are you talking about the ‘west’ & east’ coast of Florida? Or does ‘west’ coast’ refer to California?? Thanks!
@theshellnuts
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Yes, sorry about that confusion. When we speak of east and west coast, we're talking about the coasts for Florida. Sometimes I forget to say that in the videos. We're headed out to California next weekend to visit family there and we're going to check the beach there, but I don't remember seeing many shells there when I lived there and so I don't expect we'll capture any video during that trip.

I've binge watched your videos backwards 🤣 I'm sure you will notice by my comments, sorry! The cowries are AMAZING! Ohhh the amazing green turbo shell WOW!!! 😮 That's what the young man from Australia calls them anyways and it has stuck with me lol. Great videos, I have subscribed. I greatly look forward to many more videos.

Thank you again for the great feedback. Really appreciated. Yeah, if you're talking about the same young man from Australia that we watch all the time also, that guy's videos and shell collection are amazing. I think he's even more of a shell nut than we are, but maybe we're catching up. ;) We're really happy you liked the video and thank you for subscribing. We'll try to post as much content as we can as often as we can!

Great video.. I am over on the west coast of Florida in Naples. I need to come over to your side. I need a scotch bonnet and a sundial too. Is this also from MacArthur park?
@theshellnuts
Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for stopping by and checking out our videos. Yes, please come on over to the east side. If you need a scotch bonnet, I highly recommend Palm Beach and John D. MacArthur. It's a reliable place to find those. Sundials are pretty rare and hard to spot, but Palm Beach and Jupiter are good bets for those also. We wish you luck tracking down those 2 shells!

FYI: I’ve heard (read on a shelling page?) that a lot of great shells in the Keys are found/left in the crab traps!! Check it out & let us know!
