I'm 99.9 per cent I saw micheal and Jessica on the motorway around my town, I'm a taxi driver from Middlesbrough and to go from Scotland to whitby you have to travel either through Middlesbrough or round it, one day around Halloween I'm absolutely sure I past them it was only when I was further down the road I thought to myself I'm sure it was micheal driving but I couldn't turn back or slow down because I was on one of our fast roads no stopping aloud.

While traveling around Europe in the fall of 1989 I actually did get a tour of Elstree-Borehamwood after making a request (by fax!) before departing on my trip. In the last few days before returning home I called the contact, set the time, hopped the train and - missed the stop lol. Had to backtrack, but everyone was very understanding and gracious. I had tea with a gentleman named Andrew Mitchell, who was the manager at the time, before being taken on a tour. I'm forgetting the gentleman's name who took me on the tour but I remember he'd worked on the classic TV series "The Avengers". At the time there wasn't much filming apart from a Jim Henson series titled "The Storyteller", but it was fascinating to see the sound stages, water tank, post-production facilities (which I seem to recall a noted sound editor named Bill Rowe was busy working on something). It was a thrill to be on the stages - even if they were empty at the time - knowing that's where the Death Star hangar, the Well of Souls, the Overlook, and hundreds of other sets had existed from the 1920s up until that point. There was more of the studio still standing at that point than exists today, unfortunately. They kindly gave me a booklet all about Elstree at the end of the visit, with a rundown of the different movies & series filmed there over the decades. It was a great way to finish my travels!

Are you aware that there are two different versions of The Shining? The initial US release, and the version Kubrick created for the UK and Europe release. This second version is a tighter movie, and cuts some redundant scenes and shots. It's the version most people outside the US have seen.

So great to see that the iconic sets of horror classic like The Shining was built in US and England , there's so many great things to see in UK ,and thanks to both of you , Elstree cinematic studios will be my next object for a visit , i already can imagine famous trio of The Shining like Stanley Kubrick , Jack Nicholson and Shalley Duvall working inside Elstree studios back in 1980 🙂 the most my favorite cinematic spot during filming over the years is then Cillian Murphy standing on the abandoned Westminster Bridge in London while making the movie 28 days after 🙂 Michael and Jessica after both of your respectful visiting to the location of Freddie Mercury house , i'm really hoping that i will meet both of you here in UK someday 🙂 both of your youtube channel are truly one of the best gifts for the people who loves great movies and the iconic places where the movies was made for amazing success 🙂, i want to wish both of you amazing , full of energy , year of 2024 while exploring unseen famous movies sites 🙂 Happy Halloween 🙂❤🐉🎃

Many years ago I used to keep my pony just up the road from here. Where you walked up the footpath next to the studios, (I think the one with the little park) there were some open fields/land and old outdoor sets you could see. Especially on horseback, you can see over fences hedges, ect. A couple of house fronts, streets, buildings, all very dilapidated. This was at the time they were actually filming Star Wars (1975/76) but of course, nobody had heard of it then. Elstree at the time was in danger of closure (or so it was said) and I think that's why they sold off so much land. Also just a tip. If you get an ordinance survey map of the areas you are visiting, you can find footpaths just about everywhere. That big house or estate you might want a closer look at, often has a footpath/public right of way running close by. Especially older houses out in the countryside. The workers on the farms or at the "big house", had to get to work somehow a few hundred years ago and from there to the local Church/village.

A lot of people don't realise that there are actually different versions of The Shining. After the initial US release, Kubrick made another version for the European release, and as a UK resident this is the version Kubrick's friends and neighbors would have seen. The later version is tighter, cutting a few redundant scenes and shots, and I personally prefer it. If you are a big Shining fan, I think it's worth checking out both versions just to be aware of the differences.
