Enid Blyton's The Ship of Adventure - as a multi-actor audiobook play of the Adventure series book, originally written in 1950.
Philip, Dinah, Jack, and Lucy-Ann (not forgetting Kiki the parrot) are on a quiet Mediterranean holiday. When Lucy-Ann buys the old ship in a bottle they never dream it will lead to a trail of mystery and danger.
It is abridged with a 70 minute running time, the story still works well with enough tension and drama. These shorter dramatizations are ideal for 'reading' in a single sitting and are great for relaxing bedtime, or car journeys with kids. Performed by Roger Blake and Elizabeth Lindsay.
Previously uploaded a version of this story released more recently. • The Ship of Adventure ... It was 'updated' for a TV series. Most felt it was not an improvement to put it mildly - so here is a version that sticks more closely to Blyton's original story.
Recorded/released by Collins Audio in 1990. This recording is from a double pack re-release in 1992 by Harper Collins.
This is shared from a recording of a cassette tape, so lots of old-fashioned tape noises, but still listenable and an enjoyable telling for childhood nostalgia and relaxation or for excitement in new generation of imaginative listeners. The intro music originally created problems with copyrights, so that has had to be cut down a bit. Fortunately, there was no music between the ends of each side to cause issues.
