Loved when you used the undisputed daddy of a fantasy genre. Great video though.

Lotr War in the North game was fine :) I actually liked how it used the lore in ways that other games didn't (the stone giants from The Hobbit, talking great Eagles as NPC's not to mention as actual viable help in gameplay Beleramd summoning as weapon of mass destruction hehe) and how it blended the movie aesthetics with purely book lore! I mean when a game makes use of the book mentioned side character like this: "'Three and two,' said Butterbur, referring to the big folk and the little. 'There was poor Mat Heathertoes, and Rowlie Appledore, and little Tom Pickthorn from over the Hill; and Willie Banks from up-away, and one of the Underhills from Staddle: all good fellows, and they're missed. " Lotr, Return of the King I mean seriously Rowlie Appledore is an NPC in Bree in the game :) so yeah that game has a lot of elements that make it both fun and great from the perspective of lore accuracy, there are Barrow-wights to slay, giant spiders, a dragon, etc, there is talking to NPC's and side quests even if just fetch quest variety...if only it wasn't just a linear hack and slash :)....as for Return to Moria it's not a bad game overall, it also nicely uses lore (of course stretching credibility in places but still a lot is quite interesting extrapolation and expansion and some use of the book hints and references)...it's of course a different genre than we're used to...but it's a great Moria experience (in other games is what soemtimes as a level, more in depth is portrayed also in MMO LOTRO expansion Mines of Moria and that's it). There is certainly something to be said about the quality of Lotr games so far....I mean one would think that the immediate idea would be to make a proper open world single player RPG, a triple A title with hyperralistic graphics and enjoyable gameplay....a sandbox that would give us immersive in depth world a true experience that would do justice to Middle-earth as Tolkien envisioned.....there ENORMOUS potential for lotr video games!!!!!!!!! Hell the lore itself almost throws ideas for both story and gameplay mechanics left and right.....one could do even a simple clone of Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Gothic, or better yet a Witcher 3 approach, coincidentally a book series adapted into video game medium and done successfully, it gives justice to the witcher books...so why has Lotr and Tolkien such poor luck?! Hell make a sandbox a Lotr game in style of.....Red Dead Redemption 2 and it would be AWESOME!!!!!! Imagine that level of gameplay and vast open world, various steeds and vehicles to use.....horse drawn carriages, boats etc. :) And speaking of.....why not make something involving sailing....make a lotr game in style of Assassin's Creed Black Flag mixed with Odyssey, Origins, Valhalla for that naval combat and sailing in vast open world .....imagine sailing on the Great Sea Belegaer exploring the waters and islands and shores of Middle-earth and the lands of course, having sea battles with ships of Corsairs of Umbar and Haradrim ships! How awesome that would be (and since Return to Moria already showed the way with nice mining songs hehe the ship crew singing shanty songs Middle-earth style hahah...elvish ship singing beautifuly in elvish, Gondorian ships having different songs the Numenorean style vessels and so on and on)...the games based on Tolkien's rich universe....one would think that the recipe for success is already there!! One can do a lot of things and ideas, explore all sorts of concepts...hell play a thief, a burglar using stealth, and doing heists in cities of Gondor heheh or whatever...the burglar already has enough lore ;). "A really first-class and legendary burglar would at this point have picked the trolls' pockets - it is nearly always worth while, if you can manage it -, pinched the very mutton off the spits, purloined the beer, and walked off without their noticing him. Others more practical but with less professional pride would perhaps have stuck a dagger into each of them before they observed it. Then the night could have been spent cheerily." And voila heheh....and we know that they even have their own secret code of signs, the famous mark on the door: "And I assure you there is a mark on the door-the usual on in the trade, or used to be. Burglar wants a good job, plenty of Excitement and reasonable Reward, that’s how it is usually read." :) So yeah a Thief style games are even possible heheh....anything and in RPG all the professions and ways of play beign available, warrior, more mystical oriented 'magic-user' with proper respect for lore it can be done. The AC formula it's not like it wasn't already used ;)...though games like Shadow of Mordor and it's sequel are far more lore breaking....we need games which are far more canon compliant and more lore friendly than these two ;). A proper open world RPG set in Middle-earth is a looong overdue game....we must have something like that one day...especially now when Harry Potter got it with Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars will soon get it with Outlaws, and even freakin Avatar got it with Frontiers of Pandora! (their quality aside) the very concept of a lore friendly RPG that would give us living breathing world. Heck there is so much in lore that can be used...various historical settings and points in timeline and regions....imagine a game set in Eriador during war of Arnor with Angmar, with such huge game world containing entirety of Eriador from shores of Lindon and western isles to Misty Mountains, from Ice Bay of Forochel to Gwathlo and Dunland! Alone it would be incredibly vast and amazing! War with Angmar would provide enough material for story, the historical canonica characters like particular kings of Arthedain and of course the immortals. Game that would allow us to create any character we want or even playing as established one (I wouldn't mind if we got to play as Glorfindel :)...he's powerful and we don't know a lot about his adventures, he took part in wars with Angmar and could do a lot of other things beside!!!).....or a game set in Gondor during the period of civil war the Kin-strife, we could have the story choices whether to support the deposesd and exiled king Eldacar or Castamir the Usurper, there would be lots of politics, cruelty of war, power struggles, elements of Numenorean elitism and racism, even canonic great battles could be used (siege of Osgiliath, siege of Pelargir, battle at the Crossings of Erui etc.)....or even a game with Aragorn as protagonist...during his adventures as Thorongil, here again one could use the naval combat mechanic due to Aragorn/Thorongil service in Gondor where he commanded ships and his famous raid on Umbar with the fleet! And this would also give room to explore fully kingdoms of Rohan, Gondor, and other lands including the "far countries of Rhun and Harad where the stars are strange"! Anything could be done...if only they did it properly, respected Tolkien's lore and made the best possible game experience devoting passion and great attention to detail!

100% agree. There's limitless potential in picking out a setting, I always thought there was potential to do a Fallout New Vegas with various factions and alliances. Or even go the Fromsoftware route with more environmental storytelling, failing that let me fight in the War of Wrath...

@@precursoryt yeah there is a lot of possibilities,....problem is that licensing rights seem to be wasted...first the rights were held by EA and they cancelled the White Council project, that game which supposedly may have been the game experience that fans would want....an open world game. Then the rights passed to WB and of course now are held by Embracer. War of Wrath and First Age material would be probably problematic to do since the licensing would require rights to The Silmarillion....so I would say it would be better and safer to focus on the material of The Hobbit and Lotr.....I mean I would love open world game set in the Hobbit locations....entire Wilderland (as depicted in the map in the book), from Rivendell to Erebor and Iron Hills....that would be amazing game....especially if we could use boats to sail down the rivers....the story could have easily used the events post-the quest of Erebor and have palyers participate in rebuilding the kingdoms of Dale and Erebor, there would be great cities like Dale itself, Esgaroth, other towns, and settlements, Beornings's land, and of course the Woodland Realm....Mirkwood in vast open world would be amazing :).....endless forest full of dark magic, and monsters hehe...also one can imagine the use of the Enchanted River the water of which would truly have the effect of putting to sleep and with the forgetfulness charm maybe affecting the stats of the character :) if we would enter that water....hehe.....the Forest River and Long Marshes and Long Lake and rivers Celduin and Carnen being connected net of waterways would be cool to have a natural way of transportation and 'fast travel' system that would seem natural element of the world....a bit like in Morrowind pay the ferrier and travel between ports :). The Hobbit setting would be a nice beginning of proper open world games in Tolkien's universe...the revisiting of various spots where Thorin's company has been would be cool too....Goblin Town, the Goblin Gate, Eagle's Eyrie, Carrock, Beorn's house.....one can also imagine a game set in those regions closer to the War fo the Ring which would allow us to fight in real war in the north hehe, like actual battles in Mirkwood, battles of Dale and siege of Erebor etc :)....then add the Dorwinion and Sea of Rhun in some sort of expansion......kind of like the Toussaint was in Witcher 3 hehe. I'm puzzled that so far no game dev company even attempted to do something like that!!!!!
