The British comedy classic Fawlty Towers has been remade four times, and each time they failed. But why?
John Cleese and Connie Booth's masterpiece has been adapted three times in America and once in Germany. This video essay documentary takes a look at each one: Snavely, Amanda's, Payne and Zum Letzten Kliff.

Snavely starred Harvey Korman and Betty White, and was made in 1978 for ABC.
Amanda's (Amanda's By The Sea) starred Bea Arthur, and was broadcast on ABC in 1983.
