Awesome vid! I just wanna add another thing for that masterpiece: the British stopped doing slavery because having a salaryman with the conditions buy more goods was more profitable then having a slave worker
@Thrans2311

No we ended slavery in England because the Norman conquerors put a tax on it; then more than 500 years later we found out our colonies were doing it and thus began a 100 year plus movement to purge slavery from out colonies and then the rest of the planet. Many years and two world wars latter, we shut down the Empire, handed world Hegemon status to the USA and low and behold there are slave markets in Africa again.

The shortest battle ever recorded was the "Battle of Henry Johnson". Pvt.s William Henry Johnson and Needham Roberts were on sentry duty in the late night hours of May 15, 1918. A fight immediately broke out when the black Americans spotted a German raiding party abt 20-24 strong. While both were wounded in the hour-long brawl, Johnson managed to kill four Germans and prevented Roberts from being captured. He shot and killed two, clubbed one unconscious, and stabbed one through the head with his bolo knife. The remaining Germans abandoned most of their gear in a panicked run for their home trench.

One of the most powerful leaders in history that brought the whole of Europe to heel before losing half a million men to the Russian climate, Napoleon Bonaparte, was exiled to that Island after he returned to France from his first exile and retook the throne by simply walking to Paris. It took Seven European Coalitions to completely remove him from power and he probably would have crushed every last one of them if he had not underestimated the conditions in Russia. Khalid bin Barghash fought and lost one war against Britain that took 38 minutes and he ran away when the battle started. Then he got caught while the Allies were taking the colony from Germany. Both exiled to the same Island. I find that hilarious.

Two common colonial African misconceptions: 1) The Berlin Conference did not decide how africa was to be divided up, it determined how to alleviate European tensions that arose from taking land … and give Belgium the Congo. 2) Europeans did not care at all about eradicating slavery in Africa, this was a lie to justify their conquests. Although they did technically abolish slavery in their African colonies, slaves were not told about this leading to wide spread slavery in Africa up to around 30s 40s depending on the region. ALSO, Britain abolishing slavery led slavery to increase by moving plantations from colonies to African countries that had slavery. TLDR; council of Berlin was not all that, Europeans did not care at all about abolishing slavery Edit: accidentally said elevate instead of alleviate
