It was weird growing up in the early 2000's, MJ was both a revered figure and a monster, music videos like Bad, Thriller, and Smooth Criminal were shared a lot on early youtube. Meanwhile in our perception his name was always synonymous with pedophillia, as well as his other scandals, and shows like family guy and south park broadcasted every concievable joke there was to be made about him. This always made it hard to see how people could love him so much, I still struggle to understand how famous he was in the 90's.

MJ and his brothers where child superstars in the early 60s and 70s with the Jackson 5. He had one of the biggest solos careers in the late 70s and 80s. Thriller, the album, is still the best-selling album of all time. Before his death in 09 he was going to on a World Wide Tour. That's around 45yrs in the industry. This is not including his cultural significance for Black Americans. That happens when your first exposer to MJ is with jokes. You cant connect with a joke. You can only laugh at a joke.

"Stark Raving Dad" was actually my first exposure to Michael Jackson, the second one being Free Willy. I didn't really explore his back catalogue until that span of 2009 to 2019, when it was culturally okay to enjoy his music again 😅 As for "Dad" itself, as someone who watched the first twelve seasons constantly courtesy of my dad and VHS recordings, I'm sort of reminded of "Brother From the Same Planet," in that the entire episode hinged on their special guest star, but nonetheless made it a phenomenal episode with a ton of jokes and lines distinct from said guest star's presence. The big difference, however, being that the guest star they wanted for "Planet," Tom Cruise, never returned their calls, so they just tapped Phil Hartman 😂 If anyone has or can get their hand on the S3 box set, there's a secret commentary track for "Dad" solely done by showrunner Al Jean giving additional context to the production of the episode. I don't know if it contains any interesting detail, as I was an impatient kid at the time and didn't sit through it all, but I know it's there. I'm not sure how to access it on a traditional DVD remote, but I remember discovering it while playing the DVD on my PS2. Pressing R3 cycled through the different language recordings, of which commentary tracks (as well as this secret one) were in yhe cycle.

Here before the comments go insane on both sides of the MJ case. For me I left my peace with MJ in 2009 after he was manslaughter by his doctor. I don't think the episode should have been pulled it should be given a context/content flag like the 1940's Disney movies.

Disney probably only did so in case if there was any backlash on them, also just so it doesn’t look like they’re supporting MJ’s if he does turn out to have done it Btw I know nothing on this case

I always find it fascinating how corporations always retroactively ban content they made decades ago over something that happens today, like that somehow makes a difference?

If i could give some constructive feedback, you've fallen into a pitfall that a lot of new content creators do. We don't need a recap of what the Simpsons is, just jump straight into the point. Background is fine but it's really not necessary.

And now Disney won't play the episode convinced MJ was still a paedophile. Yet back in 1991 he was the hottest thing on the planet and Captain EO was packing Disney 5 years after it came out. There was also a song called "My name is Bart" found in a Prince vault tape dating to 1990 - so its likely they wanted Prince to try and write a hit for him too. Prince was hot after his hit 1989 soundtrack to Batman.

I usually don't respond to comments like this one, but the Baby Boomer generation spans from about 1945/6 to the mid 1960s. So the demographic you're describing is in fact, the Baby Boomers.
