Hi Rory, I became interested in Shibari not too long ago, I was always thought it not to be for me. Then once I had the immense pleasure of being a rope bunny for an evening, I can't tell you how much that changed my view of the entire rope-thing! Sadly Covid-19 came around and all the rope-jams/classes were understandably postponed, which made me search online. I found a couple of channels doing pentagram harness things and then I happened to come across your channel! I love the way the easy-to-understand way you explain concepts, knots, frictions and stitches. I am enthusiastic rigger now and a starting to develop my own designs based on the skills you taught me :). TL;DR; A big, warm thanks to you Rory, keep up the good work

Hey hun im plus size(uk 18)and honestly it just takes a little more rope. Sometimes I'll order 100ft and split it into a 60ft just cuz its easier than constantly attaching 30ft together and and 30ft and then a 10ft just for little bits and bobs. I've done quite a few ties and honestly love shibari its so beautiful and self tying is such a relaxing process😊don't be nervous to give it a go just because you're plus size you'll still look beautiful 😊

Terminology question. I have always seen what you refer to as a "girth hitch" or a "Cow Hitch" called a Lark's Head, through my experiences with Boy Scout knots, sailing knots, and macrame, and a cursory Google search bears that out. The only place I can find the knot you tied is in TheDuchy's tutorials as a "Lark's Head Single Column". I guess my question is, "why the re-use of the term Lark's Head for that single column tie, when only the very beginning of the tie is the traditional Lark's Head hitch?"

Pardon I’m still learning and need clarification. In one video... bunny tie I believe, you used both wrists and called it a single column, but it was wrapped around both wrists. You called again both wrists a double column when the wrists were tied separately with a load bearing thing in between. Does single column and bounce column have two meanings?

It's nice to create "slips" that you can pull to undo the binding easily. However a large number of models are also brats these days.... so I tie em off 😅. can't have the bunnies escaping now can we....

I have a question about knots! Very very new to the world of bondage, and I’ve heard knots and pressure should never be on the inside of the wrist. Does that also apply to the forearm? Would the knots have to be on top (the side of the arm facing outwards) or does it not matter where the knot is aligned?
@Boom-oq5yj
2 жыл бұрын
But how do you tie it to a post? Can you not do this tie if tying TO something? Because you need the whole rope? At 1:20 you forgot to say where on the rope to start?

Is the quick release knot at 2:30 a square knot? Because I can't seem to do it without it cinching down on my column. I've tried it a bunch of times and it always cinches down when I pull the live ends
@bladdnun3016

You might be doing it wrong (see granny knot) or your rope is too slippery. The square knot doesn't cinch.

What exactly is the difference between a knot and a hitch? 😅
@GrimNToughGuy9394
4 жыл бұрын
Now I'm not very experienced so always do your own research but as far as I can tell a knot is a anchor point and a hitch is a anchor point that you can also build on... If anyone can elaborate/ correct me please do!!
@RorysBrainworks
4 жыл бұрын
This is ESSENTIALLY correct. A knot anchors a point or anchors a rope to another rope. A hitch usually binds a rope to something. Hitches have FAR more adjustability. When it comes to Shibari, they are relatively similar. Mostly just the names that change them 😆

A good one that I learn from is called "essence of shibari". Rory mentioned I believe in one of his videos, it's a wonderful book that I purchased that has the history of shibari/kinbaku and has taught me a lot about well.. the essence of shibari 😊
@dross6206

I’ve found that if you don’t double knot the single column, it has a tendency to slip over itself into a slip knot if very much force is applied to it. Full disclosure: It could be the rope (cotton rope slightly larger in diameter than paracord) that I was using that allows this to happen
@fancydriver7754

Do you offer a lesson on how to take these techniques one step further and tie Maries arm to another object?

There's a different single column tie that doesn't do this.. I dont care for this one comparatively. Google shibari 101 and the article about single and double ties should be right near the top!

Isn't the fairmond friction hitch dangerous though? Since it slides, it can tighten too much.
@bladdnun3016
Жыл бұрын
That's the whole point: It slides only if you want it to (by pinching the knot). It doesn't tighten like a noose if your rope isn't too slippery and you use enough wraps.
